Caught up with this too last night , was there a point to them going out of their way saying it's 2012 in the show

Didn't seem right to me. Never assumed it wasn't current time or was given any reason to , so the fact they go out of their way to say it's 2012 stinks of a deus ex machina

I assumed it was because the timeline of events is small.

I.e. for us, the show has been going on for over 3 years on telly.

But the plot in the show? Weeks? Months at best?

So it'd make sense if it was still in 2012?

I thought the stuff with his wife and kids was probably the best thing about this series, but she's had about 2 lines of dialogue this series, the daughter has had more, it could have been done a lot better. Show them telling her she'd be charged, show her trying to make sense of it all with someone, show her with the kids a bit more. There are so many scenes where literally nothing is happening that could have been replaced with some of that. Get Gillian Anderson to talk f**king faster and all her scenes could be condensed into about 5 minutes.

At least something was happening in this episode albeit very slowly. I've never been in court so I don't know how it works but I found it a tad ridiculous that the judge didn't know he had memory loss. You're assigned what is probably the highest profile case in Belfast in years, maybe ever, and you're not told the basic facts about the accused? Did she not wonder why he wasn't appearing in person? It stank of lazy writing to me.

How many episodes are there in this series? 5, is it? The pace it's going at I'd assume the sneaky lawyer will be successful in getting him off a trial.

Oh, as for Eric Cantona drinking in the toilets, I assume that is set up for the defence team to poke holes in the investigation.

Is the nurse some sort of holy roller born again come to Jesus type? That questioning of his dream was a bit odd. I bet she's the type that would write to him in prison.

There is an extra on the BBC web site

Anatomy of a scene from episode 3

Allan Cubitt dissects the final scene in ep 3. Find out the thinking behind his writing.

There is also a deleted scene but I don't think it's watchable from Ireland

    Deleted Scene from epiosde 3

Sally Ann meets with Jennings, a family friend and solicitor to discuss what happens next

With only 6 episodes to play with I wish they'd merged 1&2 together and got into the interesting bit sooner. Its not ER.

Hmmm not sure that 'car in sea' footage was in the best taste. Allude to it ..... no need to show it, however far away

Is the upshot here that Jamie just says he can't remember doing anything he was accused of and he walks coz the prosecution makes a balls of it,leaving him free to go on the rampage again...cue further series of Whispers Scully chasing him around Belfast again....??

I seriously think if it werent for gilly ..... nobody would be arsed watching this. Its the emperors new clothes.

4 episodes in and they haven't shown anything worthy of one episode. Pure paint drying.

All episodes so far could easily have been merged into one.

Can't see there being a rush of pre orders for that season three dvd.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,168 ✭✭✭jojofizzio

I think we all need that psychiatrist at this stage to explain to us why we're still watching....

    I don't mind a slow burn...

...but I just don't think I trust the writers to reward the wait in any form of an acceptable payoff.
