    At that timescale would it not be more likely a transition species into Heidelbergensis, rather than Neandertal which weren't really up to speed yet? IMH just as one swallow doesn't make a summer one fragment of jawbone doesn't make for Erectus or whomever.

    Though personally I'd not be surprised to hear that evidence was found of small populations of Erectus(and Erectus/other human hybrids) were surviving until this date. They survived long after this date in Asia. Either way since the days of hard, near dogma recent out of Africa origins for modern people, this shít just got interesting. :) Personally I prefer the notion that we're all a hotch potch mix of all these amazing and resilient peoples that ended up with who we are today.
