DSLR as a pinhole camera

Had a go at turning my Sony DSLR into a pinhole camera at the weekend. I took the cheapest route. I drilled a small (4-5mm) hole in the center of a body cap. Then took a small piece of thin metal and used a thin needle to make a hole in it. Then taped the piece of metal to the inside of the body cap with the pin hole in the center of the hole I had drilled.

I was pleased to see that the concept worked but I need to think more about subject matter, here's a couple of test shots:

how big was the hole you made?
i found a bristle off a wire brush used to clean a barbeque was the thinnest 'needle' i could find when making the hole.

It's an interesting exercise but I think pinholes work better the larger the format. The smaller the format the smaller the pinhole has to be for the image to be sharp, but unfortunately the smaller the pinhole the more diffraction comes into play. 6x6 is the smallest format I think I've seen effective pinholes from, even 35mm is too small.

I agree Daire, would really like to try on a larger format but you use what you got. To be honest, what pushed me to try it was frustration, I'm 32 days away from end of my 2nd 365 and needed to try something new just to keep going. Going to take a look at constructing a homemade large format pinhole camera, something I've never done, so that reason enough to try it and reckon it's a project for myself and my son to do together.
