Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. We are overpassing way too much and causing ourselves trouble. With all this possession we are doing so little and one miss pass and they seem in.

This new shave all the hair around the sides is also just awful.
Grumble grumble grumble....But I suppose you're right...what have they got Kilduff on for if not for route one and wing play?

As for the hair: even Finn has a touch of it. Idiots.

Good performance from Rovers. We totally dominated and although there were a few nervous moments at the back and the midfield will need to create more, it's encouraging this early into the season.

    Linfield? That'll be fun :)

    1/4 final draw

    Sligo Rovers v Glentoran
    Cork City v Crusaders
    Derry City v Drogheda United
    Shamrock Rovers v Linfield

Given that the winners get roughly half the prize money that the League winners get, for a handful of games, I'd disagree.

For less games in July, we get more than winning league, cup, league cup, EA cup, setanta cup and Leinster Senior Cup combined. And we dont have to go to a final.

Silverware is far more important than a game in Kazakhstan once a year.

Hardly like prize money in europe has been traditionally good for Pats anyway.

Quigley's haircut was bordering on acceptable. That may just have to be the cost of the others' haircuts. Anything to stop that Quigley haircut from seeing light of day.
    Linfield? That'll be fun :)

Couldn't have a North/South competition worth its salt without Rovers v Linfield.

    Sligo will beat Glentoran.

Linfield have been pretty terrible this season so can't see them getting past Rovers.

Cork v Crusaders I have no idea.

You'd have to hope for the sake of the competition that Crusaders are capable of beating a middle of the road Cork side.

Well Cliftonville weren't and as for Portadown. I think the Drogs players felt sorry for them when it got to 3-0 last night.
The LOI teams have always been much better than the IL teams (bar maybe Linfield)

By some accounts, Cliftonville played the first leg certainly with the same levels of interest that Swansea played at Anfield at the weekend. Eyes on the league apparently.

Cliftonville played a reserve side in the away leg.

If they had played their full team in both games they'd be through IMO, but for them I think the domestic treble took precedence over the Setanta this year.

The crues aren't quite as good as Cliftonville, but they will play their first team.

But did Cliftonville play a full side in the second leg - if they did, they didn't even win that match.

Funny how before this game you only really commented in the Celtic section.

Keep your sectarian politics out of Irish football. And thats coming from a Bohs fan!

    Linfield Rovers could be:

    The best thing ever.
The end of the Setanta Cup.

As much as a i dislike Shamrock Rovers i feel they are going to be put into an untenable position.

Pats played Glentoran and 20 bohs fans decided to drop by, Rovers playing Linfield and already theres a numerous amount of Bohs fans going to both games. (seriously its the ****ing internet people see what ****e you post(myself included:D))

To me this game was the be all and end all of the Setanta Cup, 2 teams in scotland seemed to have done well out this type of game, now its our turn to make money off the game that happens in Scotland that reflects whats happening in Ireland.....yeah confuses the **** out of me too.

So we have a team in green and white hoops playing a team in blue in Dublin and Belfast. afaik scotland doesnt have that game anymore with their Irish team that plays in green and white hoops but lives in scotland, their team that plays in blue but lives in England.

From an LOI pov just hope to **** Rovers give linfield the "home" stand and force them out onto the tallaght bypass with 0 chance of any ****e. Dont give them the normal away end, it will end in carnage.

Thats just mental. Away section is the safest in the league. Easily the best place to out them.

Game wont end well, wont be travelling up anyway.

you let us out at the same time and we meet at the junction, nothing to stop you or "others" waiting.

<safety hat on> lock them down in the other stand funnel into that stand from the bypass and funnel them out. in fairness its perfect for it.

Pats fans hate that the shed is the best place for away fans but it ****ing works. I hope this game ends well and is sorted on the pitch. But im a realist lock them down and funnel them out 0 chance of confrontation. they travel in numbers and expect a X2 for this game. so 2000 of them.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Which stand is the "home" stand? Rovers fans are in both..

That away corner is the easiest to filter into and away from the ground, particularly when the away fans are kept in. I doubt anything will happen in the ground. On the approaches to the ground, who knows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭Ebbs

What happened to Bohs was perfect a while ago. Funnelled into their section, let out 15mins before anyone else, and they were escorted to the luas.

This whole letting fans out at the same time is a stupid intuitive forced on clubs from FAI/Gardai or something. They do it in dalyer on occasion and it never ever works. We both just get to Dolyes Corner at the same time and because the whole support is their, the hard men think they have a free license.

We wont give them 2,000 tickets anyway. Will be 1000 max.

Yeah I was congratulating the proper Oirish team. None of this British Loi stuff.

Linfield play in an All-Ireland competition which has built bridges both sides of the border. Celtic and the sectarian scrotish fans who are planning to show up especially for this game have done no such things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,670 ✭✭✭Peppa Pig

I have to say I'd have concerns about the Rovers Linfield matches. Tensions are running very high in the North at the moment. Remember the Ireland England game in 97? Tensions were high in the north that time as well and that didn't go well. Ideal occasion for the likes of Willie Frazer to act the maggot.

Some of our lads were told to take a tricolour down in Portadown. That will not work in Tallaght with Union Jacks.

It's not so much concern in the ground or even leaving it. It's very easy to mix before hand unless the Linfield fans are bused in or met off the Luas. Should be okay in Windsor park, if you haven't been there before it's mental the security they have. Away fans enter through a wired cage off the boucher road then across the second pitch and in a completely separate entrance.

Only trouble we had up there was having stones thrown from the gardens of the houses just leaving the stand at the 2007 final.

I'm glad we are just going to Derry

    Oirish and Scrotish

You probably don't remember the battle of Phibsborough in 1976 when a certain Dublin team played a certain Scottish team (who played in blue). I remember it well.

Stop your generalisations. You tried to be smart after the Spartak match and put yourself in the same category as those you are chastising now.

The cage in Windsor is up there as the most surreal thing I've come across going to a game, it had rolls of razorwire around it and still had stones, broken bricks and half filled bottles on the roof of it that had been thrown previously. Walking across the pitches towards it you are wide open but as Peppa said the security is immense up there so not much chance of there being encounters there, there are PSNI officers everywhere.

This match is between Linfield and Shams. Anyone who compares it to Celtic v Rangers is a moron.

Anyone who usually doesn't go to support either club but is going to this one because they see it as a sort of Irish Old Firm is a moron.

I feel sorry for genuine supporters of both clubs who will end up being associated with what this match has the potential to become.

Can't speak for the fans of either club but I'd imagine the vast majority would say that anyone going to either leg who is going for anything other than football reasons isn't welcome.

this is the last year of Setanta's sponsorship and while they are willing to show coverage of it in the future a new title sponsor will have to be found if the competition is to go ahead.

This is in my view the best set of quarter final pairings in the history of the competition with the potential for some cracking games.
If there are companies considering coming on board then a few good games making news for the right reasons may tempt them to take a chance on the competition.

Any trouble and we can kiss goodbye this tournament which is a favourite with a lot of LOI fans and also of any Irish League fans I've been talking to.

The problem is that those who may cause trouble don't five a fcuk if the competition is cancelled or not as they aren't football fans.
Anyone who plans on causing trouble at any tie please just fcuk off.

Some cracking ties, on paper anyway. I'd be happy if Drogs take a score draw back from Derry. Is this Derrys first competitive game?

    Sligo Rovers v Glentoran
    Derry City v Drogheda United
    Shamrock Rovers v Linfield
    Crusaders v Cork City

Anyone know why Cork and Crusaders played a week early?

Surprised if City can't finish the job tomorrow.

    2 Rovers should win.

    Couldn't call the Derry game.

CorK City are playing Limerick in the League on Sunday. It was moved from Friday to facilitate TV broadcasting. They would then have to play games on Sunday and Monday so their Setanta Cup fixtures were moved.
