Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No Address Proof

I hope someone can help me. I've moved into a friend's house recently (rent-free) and I've just learnt my JB is coming to a close. To qualify for JA I have to satisfy the means test and I have yet to change my address with social welfare. I was going to do this tomorrow but I realise now I have no proof of address. There is no landlord (long story, my friend is occupying the house for another neighbour whose mother is ill and in care, he just wanted someone in to look after the house) and all utilities are in my friend's name. I was going to change my address with the bank and get a statement, but cant even do that without proof of new address. Is there anything I can do? Apart from get a job which I've been trying to do :(

It's strange that the bank is making such a requirement: in all the moves I've done, I've never had to provide that.

Legally banks are supposed to have proof of address for you, because of laws for the prevention of fraud.

However, there must be something they can sort out instead for you, since kids/people living with their parents/people without their name on leases and bills are able to open accounts. Ring the bank and ask them, they must have other options.

could you get something like a tesco clubcard?
I agree it's strange taht the bank are insisting on proof of address, i usually change my address over he phone. You can also change your address with revenue over the phone

You can get your friend to sign a declaration that you are living with them. The SW office should be able to give you that form.

How else does everyone who has had to live with the folks and sign on manage it? :)

To show proof of address for sw get a recent utility bill in your friends name and a letter from your friend stating your living at that address.

OP here. Embarrassed to say this but the only reason I thought the bank needed proof of address was because I was researching the situation on here and someone said the same thing in another thread a while ago. Rang today and got it changed. Also got my friend to write out a letter with the utility. Thanks for the advice.
