The city has excellent broadband services, with Virgin leading the way. If you take Dungarvan and Waterford City out of those figures, the "average" would quickly drop to 2.8 Megs. Not 28.

mates of mine live in the back of beyonds in county waterford. virtually no broadband so we certainly are lucky in the city. theyd be lucky to get the lower end of your scale on a good day. becoming critical for one of the lads now as he needs it for work. no joy from any of the isps. theyve no interest in the areas. no money to be made from upgrading infrastructure. hopefully they get ftth in the near future.

If they want the infrastructure of a city, then they should move to a city. They can’t in all reason expect the same level of broadband as a city in a sparsely populated area.

its a fair point alright but rural areas do get neglected a lot not just with internet infrastructure. we cant keep thinking like this. rural areas should be serviced by critical infrastructure and broadband is quickly becoming one of thoses. unfortunately life isnt black or white. hard to move when you're in negative equity.

Hopefully that neither will be in Waterford. Plastic versions of quality.

Maybe not from the dining side of things but Witherspoons will definitely over better quality beers than lots of establishments.

The cost of bringing mains water, post, communications and electricity to a rural house is astronomical. If it's not the occupier (who chose to move there) that has to pay for it then who will? The rest of us?

Can you please keep this thread on topic,
By all means discuss how unhappy you are with Broadband outside of the City, but do so in a separate thread.

This thread is supposed to be positive, moaning about broadband speeds is hardly positive.

They are what they are, and no doubt you won't darken their door with your custom. However that is your choice, and what these companies bring with them is choice and that can only be good.

Hello, sorry if this is the wrong place. Am hoping someone here can help please.
Daughter, her man and 2 children (girl 5, boy 9) coming to visit Waterford City next week 2nd-6th. We're really looking forward to it ðŸ˜
Apart from Viking Triangle and Waterford Crystal does anybody have any suggestions about nice things to do with the children in the city?
Unfortunately one of them gets sea sick so anything on the river is out and they're already regular cinema goers so don't really want to offer that if possible.. All suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

    Some activities might suit

    Suir Valley Railway

Getting seasick and Waterford not the best combination!

Are they bringing a car or using public transport?

Would they be able to travel outside the city? Perhaps the Copper Coast Farm? There's also a lovely playground in Fenor. Tramore for a walk, and then maybe some fish & chips from Doolys on the prom!
If they're going to stay put in Waterford City, the park & playground would fill an hour or so. Maybe go for a swim in either Kingfisher or Crystal pool. Activate activity centre do bowling & also have one of those climbing walls. They're located just on the outskirts of the city, not far from the hospital.
Perhaps suggest calling into the tourist office on the quay in Waterford when they arrive. I'm sure they'd have lots of ideas too.

Great, thanks for taking your time to reply. Yes, the sea-sickness limits us a bit! Activate looks like something the children would enjoy and the railway too. They will have a car ðŸ‘

The 2016 census preliminary results came out today and showed that Waterford City has seen growth in population of 3.5%. Which is quite strong growth and a positive sign for the city in general.

The theatre royal have some good events coming up.

Going to a play tonight called ' My real life' written by Eoin Colfer staring top Irish actor Don Wycherly there.

Well done to the Waterford under 21 hurlers on there fantastic Munster semi final victory over Clare in Walsh park last night. They will play the Winners of Tipperary and Limerick in the Munster final on the 27th July (if vs Limerick in Limerick, if vs Tipperary in Walsh Park). Very good squad and have the potential to go all the way in this grade. Pity they don't get the following the senior lads get
