the only problem is, financialisation of our economies isnt exactly working out, as its involved in similar activity to a casino

What a silly comment....yeah, we're not interested in potential jobs associated with finance.

Who exactly is talking about that?

The local paper and some councillors eager to get their name in paper, I don't want to drag this into negative territory but unfortunately we are well down the list of potential sites for a sort of mini IFC, lack of office space etc.I think if we want to discuss potential or lack of, someone should start separate thread.

Great to see gas works site starting,a step towards future removing some spaces from quays, which would facilitate any potential pedestrian bridge

i could put you onto a few economists and political commentators that may make you rethink that, and you d be wondering what caused the crash in 2008:rolleyes: we have to rethink this whole financialisation

Unbelievable....so you are saying potential financial jobs in Waterford not a good thing for us....one of the silliest comments I have ever read here...every city in the world kills for those potential jobs but hey wanderer thinks because financial institutions are large part responsible for crash that we should reconsider trying to get them.I think you will get very little support for frankly totally off the wall comments like that.

Oh wait, after those comments in previous post....I hear Dublin and London have decided that all these finance jobs are bad news, they said they're taking a stand against 'finance industry and they're are confident every other city in world will follow suit..

All of your posts are very political and only focus on the bad shape that the world is in. I agree with you on many of your points but this is a Waterford forum and maybe your type of discussions are better suited to a different forum than the Waterford one?

They're now talking about a financial services centre getting built across the river. Will probably never happen but a better idea than a casino.

200 Jobs Announced yesterday for Galway - the person being interviewed described "Significant Government Support" as being key factor in bringing in the jobs ! When have we ever heard similar words being spoke about Waterford ?

    Let's keep it positive folks...
Propeller Palms new album excellent, check it out.also just after finding Marc O'Reilly new album excellent, local music and quality too.
Note I didn't see them on CD so had to download, not ideal for old school like myself but worth it..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,510 ✭✭✭Max Powers

Just read, Susan O'Neill has new album coming out too, her song on WLR is well catchy....she, with a bit of luck and a trailer full of hard work with local support could be very big.

I was being positive. Knowing there is nothing wrong with Waterford and that we are more than suitable for the kinds of foreign direct investment Jambo talked about is extremely positive. This is the way we need to think in Waterford and expect from government. To me people asking the question why we have not gotten the same level of government support for FDI even though we have a higher unemployment rate is very positive.

To be honest, it, original post, read negative to me even when re-read in light of your above response.no intention to attack your or previous post but Galway getting jobs, fair play to them etc,and highlighting when have we heard that here I just can't see as a positive.more of a valid grievance/unfairness IMO.there is no reason why we shouldn't be getting more jobs, better services except for small matter of political power and will, though its hardly positive to highlight that in this circumstance

There are advantages over Dublin for these jobs: cheaper rent/properties, warmer climate, more office building space, closer to London. If only Waterford wanted a business university instead of a technical one!

Looks like Morris's DIY is either expanding, or getting a facelift outside it. Some of the huge sheds out the back are being dismantled, new ones going up, and the area in the front where they had garden items has been removed, maybe to extend the building or create an extra parking spots. Good to see development being done anyway.

Was in Waterford today , first time in about 6 months . I know it was a nice day and Xmas time but things seemed alot better since last visit couldn't put my finger on it. Not a fan of Starbucks but it does the city good being there.
I know where the bars are in city but surprised there's no bars or restaurants in shopping areas ? Think wetherspoons should go in there and not in where other bars are.

I believe it will be outsourced, to who I don't know.

Pity, wish it was going to be a new one that we don't have in Waterford yet. Too many Costa's at the moment I think, with the Costa in Poleberry about a 10 minute walk away from this proposed one.

Wetherspoon’s has finally gotten planning permission. Hopefully now they will start construction next year. I think most people would agree that it is exactly what the area needs. Particularly being that it will be open after 6pm. Fingers crossed.

Went to see marc O'Reilly in st Patrick's gateway centre Saturday night....WHAT A PLACE/GIG.amazing musician and the place had a real 'other voices'feel about it, fair play to organisers, amazing venue for a bit of live music.Katie Kim was there to, they both have albums out which should be on everyone's list and great to know we have this amazing talent and venue here in Waterford.long may it continue.
Gig was advertised in local papers, I doubt it was advertised much on line or elsewhere but goes to show if you keep your eyes and ears open, every now and again you see something amazing here in our city.
