I mean it Johnboy. Where it's come from, in this instance, is irrelevant to me. Whats it's used for in the present and future is important. As far as I'm aware the Saudi lads made their money from property not blood diamonds. To attach the wrongs of a state to all individuals within the state is a bit strange don't you think?

Would people feel differently if they were using the money to build a specialist hospital for children?

Waterford people will benefit greatly from this development. Full steam ahead I say.

As for people disagreeing with me sure it'd be a boring place if we all thought the same.

I can only hope that the majority do not agree with such a blanket statement as
It doesn't matter where the money comes from

If that was applied to all things (and why not if that is really believed?) society would be a sad place indeed.

Do you fill your car up with Petrol everyday without giving it a second thought?

Some people have expressed legitimate concerns here. Albeit a private investment are these guys looking to be funding mosques here after this development? The Saudis have already funded mosques in Europe..you'd want to have your head up your arse to at least not want to debate issue's we may be leaving for future generations.

So no children's hospital then :)

I think society would be a hell of a lot worse if we lived in a pious utopia.

We have different understandings of how the world is johnboy.

I wouldn't say "filled" but given that we've already had IS organizers arrested here i wouldn't say it'd be beyond the realm of possibility would you?

What about Sinn Féin lads in Catholic churches?

This is known as the " slippery slope" argument and is generally without any foundation

I think the 'mods' need to step in on this thread and get it back on topic. One thing for sure.....the saudis will have some job getting voluntary conversions to Islam amongst the average Irish population.

There is 'dodgy' money involved in the children's hospital?
I think society would be a hell of a lot worse if we lived in a pious utopia.

To me that is contradictory and would be a dystopia. ;)
We have different understandings of how the world is johnboy.

It is not so much how it is, but how we wish it to be and if we are prepared to look seriously at what we do, or might do, to help. Accepting money without question and having no regard to its origin is not something I consider good practice.
It doesn't matter where the money comes from

In any case this is taking the thread off topic, so I will drop it.
    Thanks. ;)

Definitely because its irrelevant to thread and it just leads to stupid racist or stereotypical comments by a minority.plus, as frisby chap said in paper, this type of negative or unsavoury comments can put investment in doubt.not my words but a businessman/developer who knows a lot more than anyone on here.

Where did anyone say anything racist? Some people criticised the Saudi Government? Islamic Ideology? neither of those are a race. :D

edit: But I do agree. My rant about Saudi Arabia while accurate are not relevant to this thread so I am sorry for bringing this thread off topic! This thread is supposed to be about positivity and I brought it in a bad direction :) Back to happiness

i thought it was good enough, story is a bit confusing but great to see Dunmore and Passage in it. The Address is actually Redwater co Waterford so its weird to think that we would be talking about incidents that are happening in it in our local if it were real lol (prob the whole town is talking about it even though its fiction lol)

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,008 ✭✭✭✭Johnboy1951

I made the effort to watch it.
I forced myself to see it through to the end.

I guess it only confirmed my serious dislike for modern 'soaps'.
That lead female character's behaviour was totally unbelievable.

Based on my reaction I expect a lot of the 'soap lovers' will enjoy it.

I would hope that as it progresses it shows more of Dunmore and Passage, rather than brief glimpses.

The setting looked very well - should cause a good boost to tourist numbers eventually.

Does Jim Nolan ever smile? In every single picture of him I have seen he has a miserable scowling puss on him.
