For what its worth, some of the largest shipments of wind turbines have been imported through Port of Waterford in recent years. Hardly any surprise to anyone here that someone didn't mention Waterford?

The port is flat out busy with all the grain stores over there and like you say the wind turbines that come through not to mention the steel they also process. Talks of them extending the dock area to make it longer.

Not meaning to be pedantic but that port is in Kilkenny!

Not meaning to be pedantic but its official name is "Port of Waterford", which is how azimuth17 referred to it.

Well they should re-name it as it's not in Waterford....yet!

Oscar if you are going to live up to your user name be ready for a lot of Felix Unger style replies pointing out errors and omissions! :)

It's the port of Waterford company in Waterford Harbour so why would they rename it?

The Port of Waterford extends from a line between Hook Head and the Lighthouse in Dunmore East to the Barrow Bridge and the bridge at Carrick on Suir. The main terminal is currently in Belview, but the port controls the foreshore of parts of Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Wexford. The Great Island terminal in Co Wexford for example is controlled by the Port of Waterford.Tugs are managed from Bilberry, pilots are managed from Dunmore east. Cruise liners dock at various locations. I would much prefer to have everyone concerned working to have the port developed rather than having to deal with the usual arguments.

Great post. One which no doubt shuts down those stupid bloody petty comments from some people.

Routematch who have a large development office based out in Arclabs, Carriganore got acquired by Uber. That means we have both Redhat and Uber in Waterford in a development capacity which is great for bringing in more companies and high skilled jobs!

I don't know if anyone has mentioned that the COVID tracer app has been developed by Nearform from Tramore.

You know they'd be doing it somewhere else if it wasn't here. You need to stop elbowing economic theory into local practical concerns.

You were already partly responsible for throwing the North Quays thread off topic, I would ask now that you dont do the same here, you are entitled to your opinions and I have no problem with that, I actually share some of your views, however, I have already suggested to you to open up a seperate thread if you feel strongly enough about certain topics and let the conversation then stick to those threads.

Thank you, but I will decline, I will continue as is, my concerns are valid in the nq tread, and again, my concerns have not been answered, I find it deeply alarming that consenting concerns for our regions future are effectively not allowed, it's in fact deeply disturbing, again, it is your kids and grandkids I'm most concerned about. Wait till you see it, rising house/accommodation prices and a large clut of low waged jobs and all its precariousness, not a particularly nice future for our young, and you d wonder why they're turning to parties such as sf, careful what we wish for here! Funnily enough, it seems like I'm not exactly entitled to my own opioion here on boards, it seems like I'm not allowed express it anyway, unless it's positive. Watch out for the free market libertarians, they ll have you believe in very magical things that aren't 100% true, such as any other ideology like socialism etc. I will however respect your wishs, if you respect mine

You are entitled to your opinions, but when it means that threads are constantly going off topic, that's when it becomes an issue. I have no problem with you continuing as you are, however, just be aware that if we get any more threads veering off topic and heading in a direction being pushed by you, then you will be taking a short holiday from the Waterford forum.

so what you re saying is, if i only remain to be 'positive' and continue, as people such as mr cass do, i.e. lets ignore the negatives, which potentially could mean shafting your offspring's future, dont you think thats a little disturbing? oh ive also spoken to others off of boards, including local business owners, some agreeing with my concerns, mr cass is not open to criticism or possible negative effects of his amazing project, thats a little disturbing to say the least.

No, thats not what I am saying at all, I am asking you not to derail threads, I have no problem with a good debate, but sometimes you cant just agree to disagree and let things go. If that happens, I will be closing threads and issuing bans. I dont think I can be any clearer.

but there is a serious problem with regards the nq development, possible negatives are effectively not allowed to be discussed, there are possible offsetting methods to these negatives, so the project can be truly successful for the region, but these are not allowed to be discussed. its also important to remember, there is an ignore function on boards, if people dont like my comments or others, just press it, you ll be fine then.

I've been thinking how absolutely blessed we are with this county and scenery. Since this pandemic I think a lot of people have been exploring the county even more than usually would. Seeing photos online of Coumshingaun, Ballysaggartmore towers, Lismore Castle, The Greenway, Mahon Falls, Coppercoast, Curraghmore, Mount Congreve, Its a pity Waterford isn't promoted as much as the Wild Atlantic way but we can definitely compete.

Don’t mean to come over all conspiratorial. But this kind of thing is happening far too much in far too many areas when it comes to support at national level for this kind of thing to be a mistake. There is clearly a conscious strategy of exclusion at national government level with relational to Waterford.

But agreed, the scenery in Waterford is absolutely stunning. Last year one sunny Saturday I cycled along the coast road from Tramore to Bunmahon. I stopped at the top of a hill near the old mine. Had the coast on one side of me, the Comeraghs on the other side and there were two hawks circling overhead. It was just world class. With the museums, hotels etc in the city Waterford has a fantastic offering to visitors. Unfortunately, the powers that be know this all too well and see it as a threat to their interests. Did it ever occur to them that by giving Waterford its fair share of promotion it could just increase overall tourism numbers not take from theirs.

I have to say having had the opportunity to read a lot more of the national media these past few months what with all the extra Covid time (and lack of pubs etc!) I have seen a lot of mentions and articles about Waterford in the weekend editions of the Irish Times, Independent & Sunday Times. In the past number of weeks there has been a large front page (and 2nd page) of the Times weekend review supplement re Waterford business's opening after the lockdown, last weekends Indo Weekend had a feature on Waterford tourists sights, there was also a large feature on 'Nest' shop on the Quay in the Sunday Indo's Magazine another weekend. And the Greenway is always promoted even now more so what with the focus on staycations this Summer. More and more people are realising what Waterford has to offer.
