Default Settings.

- Last day is Sunday 17th February 2013.

General Rules:

- Highest score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.

I don't think there is enough going on in this game to keep my interest, I will try again before the deadline, I like video game competitions. I guess the only appeal to this game back in the day was that it was Space Invaders with colours.

This game is brilliant. I get so rattled when I start getting a higher than normal score.

You get an extend at 7000 points. I completely bottled it on my last life though, lost it in seconds!

What an impossible game, its not even enjoyable at least in Galaga you can shoot 2 missiles at once or 4 if you capture a ship

I'm finding it a lot 'easier' (it's still **** hard!) to play with a computer keyboard rather than a joystick.

It's a really great game. Just have loads of goes. You score more if you aim for the lads coming at you.

Don't get trapped at the sides.

Watch out for the little purple guys.

I'm hit and miss at it, sometimes I'll get the timing really well and hit stuff consecutively, other times I feel like I graduated from the Stormtrooper school of barn door shooting.

I'm not overly fond of it. Much prefer Galaga. That being said, it gets better the more you play.

Getting the yellow guy with the two red escorts in flight can get you 800 points which is a lot of points in the context of the scores we are posting.

I'll stick in 10 credits and try again tomorrow to break 10k

I noticed that a lot of people posted scores without screenshots, I found that a little frustrating. Alas, they haven't been counted. The whole competition is based on honesty and fake scores can be posted, photo shopping a screen grab can be done but would be very petty; hence the requirement of a screen shot.

I'm sorry if I sound like some sort of whinger, but this competition is about the third or forth attempt to get a friendly boards competition going and the previous ones have faded away. It would be nice if this one continued as a regular thing.

Screenshots are preferable, but if someone is sad enough to post a fake score then they'll be sad enough to post a fake screen.

It's not like there's a big prize or anything. I'd trust everyone here on honesty alone without screenshots (as there's nothing to gain) but that's just me.

Anyway, myself and Dr Bob posted screenshots in the other thread, so it's a null point anyway

Yeah I guess a screenshot means little (who knows what cheats you can use) but it makes it a little less likely that someone would have cheated. I'm really just working off the 'honour' system. For now I'm going to just enforce a screenshot or your score doesn't count on the leaderboard but you do get the 1 point for entering/contributing.

Win or lose...I don't care. I'll keep the threads going once there is enough interest. Even if every game isn't to every ones tastes it's enjoyable (imo and at least for me) to play games I'd not normally play.

A recovering Galxian addict from the 80s writes: You need to get both the red escorts and THEN the yellow to get 800.

Yeah you need to follow a certain order. It's easy enough to get the two red guys, but getting the yellow one last can be tricky as you have to be perfect with all your shots - and the damn bullet replenishment is really slow.

I think it's to do with just shooting the yellow guys when they fly at you (without hitting the reds).

All the ships fly back to formation and stay there for a while without attacking you.

might be worth clearing up which revision of each game to use as well , when I had a go again last night I noticed that the extra guy was at 4000 not the 7000 I'd seen before , turns out rev 2 of Glaxians has a different score rev for it...
