Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

from Lewis 1837 on Athboy town and civil parish :

"...In the R. C. divisions the parish is the head of a union or district, comprising the parishes of Athboy and Rathmore: the chapel is now in course of re-erection, and when completed will be a handsome and commodious edifice in the ancient style of architecture, with a steeple 90 feet high; it will be lighted by five windows of considerable dimensions on each side, and three at each end, and will have three entrances in front....

The OSI maps are down for maintenance but a search of Athboy and Rathmore civil parishes should probably show where the parish church was located (these are indicated as Chapels or RC Chapels)

say this is the one, St. James Athboy completed 1845 - even mentions the Lewis entry...

    http://www.athboyparish.ie/churches

Pigot's directory of 1824 mentions the chapel in the Athboy listing but only in passing... probably the predecessor to St. James.

'The town consists of one main street, which is clean and spacious. It contains a modern built
church and tower, a Roman Catholic chapel, a market house, and two schools...
    '

Records for the parish go back to the 1790s, so there must have been a church somewhere in the area back then. Records should have ended up in the parish church.
