The road tax is going to force me to scrap it, otherwise I think I'd keep it 'til it died or I did whichever came sooner!

    2007 Saab9-5,

Heated seat does not work, cold buns.
Single swipe of wipers work when it wants.
    Battery on they way out.
Cruise control switch is just plain stupid, could have been designed better.

They rest of the gripes I have repaired,
elec seat memory switch faulty (burnt out track on PCB)
Xenons auto leveling system fault (replaced both angle sensors)
Intermittent noise from the engine bay (bearing on the alternator).

Otherwise happy enough, most stupid feature I love is the night panel.Still miss my subaru legacy.

    1. Cupholders are useless. Two shallow holes between me and the handbrake. Anything larger than a small coffee gets in your way changing gears or using the brake. You end up moving your arms around it.
    2. Appalling lack of storage. The door pockets are next to useless, there's a fidgety area behind the floating console, and a small area under the arm rest. The glove box is a little pokey too.
    3. Fairly large pillars can make visibility awkward.
    4. Crappy reverse light is next to useless in any kind of inclement weather
    5. Beeping for seat belts. If I put something on the passenger seat, I have to position it so it doesn't trip the over sensitive seat belt sensor. I didn't figure this out at first, and one day drove 25km home from work listening to high-pitched intermittent boop boop boop noise (it escalates from bing bing bing the faster you go), thinking I had a fault before I clicked what was going on.
    6. Fidgety clutch has to be released slowly due to a short bite
    7. Gear box is fidgety. 2-3 needs a split second of centering or it won't slot properly into 3rd. Between that and the clutch I scrape going into 3rd from time to time.

I do like the car though.

Add door deals that fall off the rear doors, and overall have flimsy closing noise.

Wind noise from the front doors due to a poor seal (Can be cured with Silicon Spray)

The rear window washer gets blocked very easily.

I have the estate, the reversing lights are grand :/

The cup holders are ok, although I bought a a cup that fits, I'd agree anything smaller flies pretty easily out of them otherwise

Other gripe is that the parts are bloody expensive !

Add to that you can't turn the lights off so bulbs go quite frequently !

    06 focus 1.4

no power, at all, ever, no matter what your doing
mpg is awful for such a car due to lack of power and it being a heavy car
    no cruise control
no one touch up for the drivers window (or any window but drivers is all I really need, car parks are a pain)
    no a/c
my parrot mki9200 car kit remote is a load of crap, buttons never work properly
not a massive fan of the colour (tonic blue)
    no trip computer

having said that there's loads I like; size of the boot and glove box, heated front screen... oh wait thats about it hence I'm changing to an e46 or similar in the next few months.
I will miss the heated front screen though, a lot.

    Mazda 6 1.8.

    Devours petrol.

Also, my photon torpedo launchers are off line even though I've diverted auxiliary power to the warp coil manifold and re-calibrated the plasma injector. (A common fault on the 2007 model)

BMW e60 - it's like the indicator stalk was designed to annoy me (hate would be a bit strong), been about 7 months I've had the car now and there are still times when I just can't get it right, tax on 3 liter is a bitch too but that's not the cars fault :o.

    08 Focus ST:

Hate the rattle that comes from passanger side rear panel. I read it's 3 wires connected to the stereo that are abit too long...so if it's anyway bumpy / uneven ( 99% of the roads in ireland) it makes this lovely little vibrating hum as it taps of the metal body...that will eventually drive me crazy!

    I read it's a handy fix....but i dont even own a screwdriver :(

Aside from that she's a beaut!

+1 for the wipers. They go full speed for light spells and then are intermittent during heavy spells.
I do however find the dim rear view mirror to be good.

There is always one...it's the type that, if they won the lotto, would get themselves an Enzo and drive it at 80kph on the motorway (in a 120 zone, no less!).

Besides, I always found the whole idea of cup holders in a car to be quite stupid: you're supposed to drive, not thinker with cups. Of course it's an American thing but, judging by the number of posters mentioning them, my theory about Ireland becoming an US colony seems to gain ground :)

ah now. To be fair if your commuting then a bottle of water of similar could easily be required. I don't think its "an American thing", its just a normal thing that people require fluids and a cup holder allows easy access to said fluids when on a long(ish) drive.
In sports cars I can understand the lack of them. If they can fit one in then fine, but if not then grand.
But to say the idea of cup holders in cars is quite stupid is a bit of a generalisation! :)

    2005 Honda Accord i-CTDI 2.2:

Little enough, come to think of it!

It's not an auto (for me these days, changing gears has about as much appeal as a plate of cold sick - I know it gives you more "control" over the car, but then so does winding up the windows rather than pushing a button and letting the car do it).

Also, on the Mitsubishi Carisma I had before, it had a warning light for the washer water which I found very useful (although when it was borderline and you were driving on back roads, it would drive you cracked blinking on and off! :D).

The main thing is the bloody road tax. Yes, I know you have to look at total cost of ownership, but Christ alive, over €900?

But to say the idea of cup holders in cars is quite stupid is a bit of a generalisation! :)

As a matter of fact they are indeed a very American thing, as US car companies started putting them in cars after an octogenarian woman won a 2.7 million Dollars lawsuit against McDonald's because she was too stupid to properly handle her cup of coffee spilled boiling hot coffee in her lap at a drive-trough "restaurant".

Further confirmation to this, most European car makers didn't install cup holders at all in their vehicles until relatively recently, when large-scale economic considerations meant many global manufacturers started using the same baseline interiors for their models regardless of the market they were sold into; So many Toyotas, Nissans, BMWs, Hondas, Mercedes, Audis and the likes essentially got US-friendly interiors that incorporated cup holders even in their EU-market-destined versions. Other, mostly EU-based manufacturers followed suit and here we are now - all cars have cup holders, even my plebeian Megane from 2001 (which is, in fact, the first car I owned equipped with them).

I still see no use for them at all and deem drinking from a cup or a bottle to be a distraction from the task at hand - driving the car. As a matter of fact, in many countries (the UK, for example) you could very well be pulled over for drinking or eating while driving (https://www.gov.uk/general-rules-all-drivers-riders-103-to-158/general-advice-144-to-158)

Back in topic, what I hate about the mentioned 2001 Megane Cupe': being 6'2", I have to slide the seat all the way down to accommodate my legs under the wheel but, if I also lower the seat to the minimum height, the backrest tilts back, giving it a single-seater style driving position that makes it hard to properly reach the steering wheel!

To turn off the DRL's on a Saab 9-5 just pull fuse 35, you need to do this if you add aftermarket HID's otherwise they will strobe as the DRL's run at a lower voltage than the normal lights.
My Subaru ate 3 bulbs in the first 10 months, so I put in HID's problem solved.

I disagree. No distraction for me and no risk of spillage either.

    Evo IX.

    Where to start??
    • Fuel Consumption.
    • Worrying about strange noises.
    • Rattles in the dash.
    • Constant fear it is just going to go bang.
    • Short service intervals.
    • Insurance costs.
    • Certain types of drivers looking for a race.
    • Peoples perception of me when I drive it.
    • The noise when I just want to drive normally.
    • Ride comfort.

I sometimes wonder why I bother when I have to deal with all of the above but once it goes on boost I quickly forget about everything.

I have a sentient squeek coming from a belt in my Celica. It knows when it is getting near a mechanic and vanishes. Only to come back after the mechanic gives it back to me with a clean bill of health. Sometimes I think it is laughing at me!

    Great car aside from that.

The Sat Nav needs to be manually turned on every time the car is started, all it is is a push of a button but it's a pain in the ass.
Center screen should tone down in brightness by default once dims are turned on.
Takes too long to read the ipod.
Every time I sit into my Honda Accord it takes about 45 seconds from start up to pulling away just setting up the radio or the SatNav,apart from that I wouldn't change much else-apart from the consumption:p

Water leaks, which are a known issue with the car.
Very little torque at low revs, gets better midrange though.
Seats are not hugely comfortable, but I only drive for 40 mins at most.
The interior is grey plastic. Opel interior usually are an abomination unto Beelzebub anyway.
Otherwise I'm happy enough as I didn't buy it.

No shortage of cupholders in my Merc A140 :pac:

    Seats could be more supportive
Ride could be a bit better
Battery is under the floor at the drivers feet - awkward if it needs to be charged or jumped.
It's white - gets dirty within 10 mins of being cleaned.
Some repairs have been costly due to design and not as straightforward as you would think

The most annoying thing about my car is one of the discs in the windscreen(marked "NCT") has 13.02.13 printed on it in big black letters. That and the fact the power steering has decided to stop working, rendering it uneconomic to get a new piece of paper for the screen. I now need to buy another car, which is a pain. I have no idea what to get, no time to go get it and there's nothing I'm currently hankering after. Jasus..

    Toyota Avensis Tourer

Rear windows are not electrically operated
Doors automatically lock when speed exceeds 12 kph which is fine but the rear doors don't unlock when driver's door opens. Many times, when carrying passengers, I have got out of the car and wondered why they were taking so long to get out only to find that they were still locked in!
