Fear of dropping aitches and appearing "common" so add them where not required. I've seen "heighth" before. And no, giving up nothing.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Everyone knows that girth is really where its at, not length.

But, since you're asking about Lent, I assume - I've given up giving up things for Lent.

"Length" - A concise example of how ridiculous Irish catholicism really is!

    That and poor teaching standards.

When I first moved here from England, it took a while to familiarize myself with the local idioms and vernacular.

I was talking in a pub one evening with a guy I worked with, talking about manly pursuits, such as women. I mentioned one particularly attractive young lady from my time in Blighty, to which he responded "Did you give her a length?".

Only, being a salt-of-the-earth Dublin type, he actually pronounced it "Do you give her a lent?"

    To which I replied "Chocolate."

The metric system because it's the tool of the devil. My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.

Is length the Chinese knock off of lent?
