I bought a .com domain from Media Temple last night (they were doing a deal for $1 a year so I thought why not).

Anyway I bought the domain but I wish to use weebly.com to create my site.

When I go to do this, Weebly tells me my domain is not set up properly. I've emailed Media Temple this, which is from Weebly's FAQ help:

Hello, I have purchased my domain www.xxxxxxx.com from you. I have built my website on Weebly.com. I need you to point my domain to the following IP: (Weebly's IP address no.)

This is done by changing my domain's A-Records. I am not requesting that you transfer my domain, redirect my domain, or change my name servers. I want to remain with you as my domain registrar. For more detailed information, please see http://kb.weebly.com/domain-registrar.html

Basically my question is, if Media Temple do as requested above am I good to go or is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks a mill

ETA: there's no stipulation that the domain must be hosted via Media Temple, infact they say it can be hosted elsewhere.

If you login to your Media Temple account, there will be a option for DNS Settings. Here is where you setup the A-Record which points your domain to Weebly's IP address (which is ready and waiting for your settings to apply). Here are some links on A Record information and how to set it up.

Thanks but from looking at the Media Temple site in order to create an account it looks like I have to actually pay them a min of $10 to use their hosting service. Maybe I am mis-reading it but I couldn't seem to create an account without signing up to use them as the host site.

Well if you bought a domain, you have to have an account somewhere to manage it. Where did you buy it?

Media Temple. They say you don't have to use them for hosting though.

No not for hosting but you will still have an account to manage your domain and it's settings. Go to the Media Temple website and login there with the details you used while purchasing, then you will be able to modify the DNS settings.

Thanks so much for everything. Much appreciated. Will do that now. I'm a bit clueless as you can see! Thanks
