Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi guys, Me and my friend are going to America for the summer, I want to join the gym and get big arms and chest. Basically I don't know where to start, what protein should I take? what exercises should I do?

It's important I become big, as its a matter of pride between me and my friend back home, he bet me I wouldnt be as big as him by the time I come back :pac:

I'm about 6ft , a broad build, Im not skinny but wouldnt be big at all.

Hope someone gets back to me with a plan/programme on how I should do this.....and also stay motivated throughout it.

    Cheers :)

    1) I hope this isn't a troll

    2) I hope people give him genuine advice, rather than hassle him for not wanting to become yet another powerlifter.

Can I ask you a few questions before I answer yours.

Have you been to a gym before?
    Why only Chest and arms?
What about Legs, shoulders, back etc...?
Do you know about your diet? Fats, Carbs, protein?

Why? his question is a little silly to a degree and deserves a certain amount of ridicule even if he is serious. /your above comment seem to indicate that there is onoly two types of people

1)people who want big arms/chest (call them bicep boys)
    2)powerlifters

I would argue that most people fall inbetween in that they want to develop some strength and have a balanced over physique.

To the OP. If you just want big arms and chest I would eat plenty and do lots of bench press, close grip bench press, dips, overhead press, pull ups

Better to develop your overall physique though.

Yea,, I have gone to the gym before. Nothing proper though.
Only chest and arms because I'm happy enough with my legs, played a lot of football, Hurling etc.
I'm also broad enough, so shoulders are fairly decent.
I have a ****ty enough diet at the moment, don't eat a lot of healthy food, as I'm in college..... No time for eating healthy.

    Cheers

Going to Matha's Vineyard to work for the summer, I hear there is a gym beside me, it's $90 for 3 months membership I hear.

He is not asking for advice. He is asking to be told what he wants to hear which is that in 3 months he can magically develop massive arms and chest.

He choose to ignore the perfectly sound advice I offered in my second post above.

    He needs to
    A)eat well
b)focus on compound movements that focus on the chest/shoulders/arms

Well all he needs to do is flat dbell press and bicep curls..That advice is free.

    Oh and eat protein

Well I have offered advice twice In this thread both of which you have ignored? So why should it be kept on topic?

Yes, and thanks for the advice.

But it just seems like your being a bit smart and condescending, and I didn't appreciate the negativity.

Fair dues. I was being smart/condescending/etc.

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. And rather than blowing smoke up your arse it might make you consider how ridiculous your request is.

Either way my advice stands. Best of luck with it!

Join a gym and there will be Trainer's there who will advise you how to get what you want. Its usually part of the membership too so you dont pay extra or anything. They'll set you on the right path.
