Not exactly, but you could do something similar.

Have a lot of police and "gift" some patrol cars to neighbors, this will earn you regular income from your cars going over there are sorting out their crooks.

A tale of horror and woe!

So, I'm building my fourth or fifth city and it's going well. All my sims are rich and educated and have everything they could ever wish for. The population is healthy and sitting around a comfortable 100k or so. Tourism is through the roof as sims flood in through my train, plane and ferry system to gamble in my casino and marvel at the attractions. My mayor even has his own helipad......all is well.

The dawn rises and my eco-friendly solar panels kick into gear to power the city.

All seems well until.....Disaster! A meteor shower falls from the skies!

Many killer AsPlosions hit the streets....

Many sky scrapers and towers burn while my fire trucks fight over the same small building. :P

And yet even through their incompetence, the city prevails battered and bruised yet still standing.

RelaxationVille is still alive.

Incompetence did more damage then the twisters and zombie apocalypse anyway.

Why can't I buy Power from my neighboring city? The game is actually telling me to buy it but it says I have "No neighboring power providers".

This is infuriating. 3 times now I've made a city. I log off and come back later and find the server is full forcing me to start again on a new server.

****ing always-on ****e.

I don't even want to play multiplayer, just mess about in my own region.

hopefully they add offline mode and maps being saved on local client, but all the uproar with Diablo 3 it never happened, slightly different with that game and can see where Blizz was coming from

Yeah its a ****ing joke, i cant get onto any of the 2 cities i made.
I wanted to join a server with boardsies on so we could have a region, but couldnt do that because of full servers and friends list ****ed up too.

So decided to make a private region,working away on new city and down go the servers

Do you have neighbors? Go into Region view click on a neighbouring city and if they have a surplus of power you can buy it from them.

I'll say one thing, while the server debacle leaves no desire to play this version of Sim City, I do suddenly want to play one of the classic versions - which of the previous games is considered the best? My mind says SimCity 2000 but its been a while...

56 minutes wait till next attempt to join.

What happens then, will it search for the server, then ask me to wait another 56 mins? Or will I be front of the queue then, and let in as soon as possible?

It's alot easier to put offline mode in sims as this always on **** does minimal computation and really only checks for an internet connection every 10 mins and there are cracks already appearing for sim city so there wasnt alot done by the servers

Diablo 3 has a nice bit of computational work done on the server b as regards item drops and stuff so they could control the RMAH and therefore it took months for cracks to appear for D3 but by that time the game was dead

I cant stand these forms of DRM because for two reasons:
1) i have a poor internet connection and these games are unplayable for me and many others

2) right now there are pirates playing sim city with all features enabled while paying customers are struggling to log in and when they do its with limited features

You cant expect to combat piracy when the pirated copy offers a better service than the legitamite copy

Don't know where you're hearing that! it isn't cracked, game is too complex to crack out of the box when servers are involved

It is cracked,its available in quite a few places.
So we the paying users cant connect and have all sorts of issues and those using the pirate version can play away, lol way to go EA.

FML, as soon as 56 minutes is up, I got an instant, can't connect to server message, then they restart the countdown at 56 minutes.

Why on earth can't you access your cities if you change server? Websites like Google have hundreds of servers, and they all let you access the same things.

Same here. 52 mins now. I had to wait 20 earlier. When the timer expires you should get in.

I was just booted while I was playing and now have to wait again. So much for staying in once you've waited in the queue.

It most certainly isn't cracked. The game files from Origin have been uploaded to a few places but there is no crack yet due to obvious reasons.

As for those interested in some of the technical details behind their online systems, there's a rather excellent synopsis (and hypothesis) from some more experienced folk on Reddit here.

Much of it echos (albeit in a far more comprehensive manner) what I said above with regard to the local game vs. server-side region hosting. One thing is also for sure, if they were just looking at implementing an always-online requirement for the purposes of DRM, this sure as hell wasn't the way to go about it.

On the upside, it's nice to see server migration for your regions is on the cards, it seems to be a bit of a stickler for many.

Let me guess you have to fill out surveys to download it yeah? it isn't cracked,
just because you can download the game from pirate bay doesn't mean you can play it.

It is a real pain not being able to play due to the server issues. Bah.

Also, is there any way to check which servers you have already been playing on? I have forgotten the server that I built my city on due to having to change to different servers to find a free slot.

Only a matter of time maybe? crack or server emulators? im no expert but some of the pirates are.
Didnt they find a way around tropico 4 requiring an always on connection.

Finally caved in and bought the game.

There's a lot of us in the region "Servers Busy". I think we have like 6/7 cities working in conjunction with each other. It's on the EU west 2 Server. I'm IRLSinister on Origin.

There was alot more going on server side for Diablo3. That was cracked. This will be too. It's just a question of when.

So.....are we starting this boards.ie region or what? "Servers Busy" is nearly full.

Maybe we could start it on a newer server so we can all get on.

I've set up an industrial city to partner with my main city. I've demolished all the industry from my main city, how do I make them go to the industrial city? They seem to all say "vacant" and "hiring".

Make sure they are connected via road and rail. I just started a new mining city only to discover that the roads don't connect to my other cities so ill need to choose a different location.
