Ah lads. That line was obvious. How could ye's miss that? :p

The key is the high density roads guide not leaving you enough room. It means you have to manually, and carefully use roads....or just use avenues for everything which is annoying.

Surprised that the Europe servers are still busy at this time of night!

As far as I can tell there's a large American contingent playing on the European servers.

That graphics card is listed as very poor at low settings for Sim City here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html (do a search for 6250 and you'll see the result)

Cheers for that, still thinking about risking it :P

I'd say it'd be unplayable at that fps.

Would we be better off picking antarctica? I mean, this isn't twitch gaming. A few more ms won't kill us. And atleast we can all get on at all times.

The thin line behind the zoning line indicates the amount of space needed for high density building. You can use it to work out your grid for max density.

Does the thin line change dependent on the road density? Eg on a medium street will it show you how to position the opposite street in order to get the best block size and use of space for a full medium density block, or does the thin line always represent positioning for high density only?

I assume it's high density otherwise it'd be useless as being forced to lay down high density roads at the start so you could measure your grid out would defeat the entire purpose of having upgradable roads to begin with. I haven't checked in-game though.

Managed to get onto EU West 3 last night and do a bit more on my city in Kirbys region, my city in sinisters region isnt going so well, tried to start a casino town but seems nobody likes gambling and every casino i build ends up making a massive loss

Casinos are bugged at the moment, a fix is on its way apparently according to a Maxis guy on Reddit. The entry level gambling halls can turn a profit though.

Yeah had one of those that was making a profit but bulldozed it with the theory it was taking customers from my fancier ones

The above is wrong, the guidelines are based on the density of the road.

That was a bit like mine, casinos making a decent profit or massive loss seemed to be very hit and miss. And the stadium ending up loosing me 30-40k every time it put on an event.

**** just built one of the massive ones, saving up to put on an event, might just leave it turned off.
Also does anyone know whats up with the great works? Put about 10000 barrels of oil into an airport yesterday but there was no change on the region screen to the resource count

It most certainly isn't cracked. The game files from Origin have been uploaded to a few places but there is no crack yet due to obvious reasons.

As for those interested in some of the technical details behind their online systems, there's a rather excellent synopsis (and hypothesis) from some more experienced folk on Reddit here.

Much of it echos (albeit in a far more comprehensive manner) what I said above with regard to the local game vs. server-side region hosting. One thing is also for sure, if they were just looking at implementing an always-online requirement for the purposes of DRM, this sure as hell wasn't the way to go about it. :p

On the upside, it's nice to see server migration for your regions is on the cards, it seems to be a bit of a stickler for many.

Interesting read, it is very like the setup of most MMO's servers, hence the strict server migration for players ya see with almost every MMO.

As I said before there is no limiting factor that the GameEngine and core gameplay elements that must run on the server resulting in the game being only able to be played online on the servers or "Cloud Computing". (Any time I hear someone coming out with the term cloud computing as if it is something different to the basic server client relationship a little bit of me dies inside). The bottleneck as I see it is the server validation that goes on, validating your client every couple of minutes for anything that should not be possible like mods and cheats. It is a bit of a kick in the teeth to the huge Simcity4 modding crowd.

    This line is very telling,
"The client appears to be able to simulate a city while disconnected from the servers. I've experienced this myself, having the disconnection notice active for several minutes while the city and simulation still function as normal." Now if this was a true MMO where actions from another player were neccesary to the core gameplay experience I would say fair enough it is SimCity MMO but this is not the case.

Everything that was listed on that reddit post is not neccesary and can be stripped from the single player elements of the game(including the region hosting, even if everything on the client is dummy data for a sandbox mode), it may take a bit of work, but my point is that there was no will to do this hence in some way, trying to justify the always online DRM. There was very little interest in providing this offline mode for whatever reason, may be it is EA's new corporate philosophy that they are providing an "online service" and an offline mode runs in the face of this. If so I would be worried about any games released by EA in the future.

As for the crack, I would say it is only a matter of time. Whatever is up already is almost certainly just an image of the application. The only limiting factors as I can see for people to crack the game is resources, time and money.

*Edit after a little bit of digging an informed poster on Reddit has come up with this theory. Now nothing is concrete here but it does not go against anything that we currently see. The very fact that it was announced that they were looking into adding an offline mode (Why would they if it was impossible) seems to back an architecture like this up too.

Been playing all night, really like it, the more I learn the better it gets.

Just had a godzilla(?) attack. Thankfully he missed everything except a few houses.

Also, my coal mine is closed cause it needs water. How do I fix that?

Is there anyway to get on to another server without having to quit?

Ah - I was wondering if I was doing something wrong - a few gambling halls were making decent profit.

The big ones were swinging from losses to gains - I thought it was that if I ran out of water or power these (and mines etc) were the first to be cut off causing my gamblers to leave and not come back for a while.
