    Hi all,as above,I need help with these proof marks. They are on an AYA sxs with a double trigger,english stock and 28" barrels. Any help would be great as I've e-mailed AYA and have had no luck with a reply.
    Cheers all. LR.

    Cheers Griz, now I just have to figure out the age. The serial number suggests the fifties (I think) but I can't find the corresponding date mark . Looks like an afternoon on the tinterweb!

    Helm over X = Eibar Proof House.
    Helm with 'spinach' over X = proof test with standard ammunition.
    BP = Nitro Proof
    X and 2 = Post 1931 provisional BP proof - carried out prior to nitro proofing as a pre-proof test.
    12/70 = 12 gauge/70mm cartdiges [2 3/4" only]

    The other stuff are assembly stamps and the PV is the final acceptance stamp.

    As you note - you'll also have to Aguirra y Aranzabal S.A for the date off the serial.

    Thanks Tac, I checked the AYA website and according to the info there, I'm wondering if the "E" over the PV could be the pre-1945 date letter. If so, it would mean the gun was made in 1932,but I doubt it's that old. I could be wrong though.......

    I found a list of date codes back when I had my own Aya, I'll throw it up later.

    The "E" is reinforced voluntary proof for single proof
    for single and double barrel shotguns.

    Thanks for the help lads. I finally got a reply from AYA this morning. All they could tell me is that the gun was made in 1957 and doesn't have a particular model name. Still, at least I know a bit more about it and I now i can clean it up and go out and start hunting with it.:D

    C1 would be the date mark for 1957 ;)
