:eek::eek: It's posts like this that scare the crap out of me! I have some mad notion of a 3:30 time and my times are sooooooooo much slower than yours! I am beginning to think that I am being a tad optimistic!

16 miles in your lunch hour... I doff my cap to you sir, that it serious dedication :D

I normally run about 8.40 pace but had to up the pace today due to time constraints. I'm lucky that they're fairly flexible here and I can make up time other ways. I run 5 of the 6 weekly runs during lunchtime which frees up time in the evening for the two little Eco's.
I wouldn't worry about the LSR pace. Slower is better when it comes to this.

Cost of entry increases by €10 to €75 on Monday, so might be an idea to enter today in case you forget over the long weekend!

    hope I've updated table ok.
    half-way through P&D 18/55.
Was going really well for first 6 and a half weeks, then lost the end of week 7 and the majority of week 8 to a hip/glute strain. Means I lost an 18 and a 20 miler!
Had resigned myself to CCM not happening, but then managed to complete week 9 without issue. So fingers crossed I could yet be at the starting line come June.
Finding P&D 18/55 difficult on the legs, it is a jump up in mileage for me but finding it easier to stay disciplined with this plan than others, I think because of the generous number of recovery and GA miles.

The monkey on my back says I can't go under 3:30.
    So aiming for 3:29:59.

(I've listed total plan miles as opposed to YTD miles)

Well the idea is that running slow teaches your body to burn energy more efficiently by going to fat reserves as opposed glycogen stores which are limited, and when you run out of glycogen, you stop. As well as that, you will have recovered and rested up with a taper before your marathon, so you should be fresh....

I guess you should just believe, its my first marathon as well so I am kinda thinking the similarly. I have run a few half marathon and ten mile races at faster than PMP so I am a bit reassured by that. Have you run much races or shorter runs where you would be going faster than PMP? 9.30 min miles should probably feel like an easy pace for you...

There’s no guarantees of course. With all the training you’ve done, you should be able to it, but things can and do go wrong in races. All you can do is follow the plan as best you can and give it your all on the day.

The idea is that by having done your LSR’s slow, you have trained your body to burn fat for energy rather than just glycogen. This should serve you well on the big day and you will hopefully avoid hitting the wall which is what happens when your glycogen stores run out at around about the 20 mile mark. Also, race day conditions are so different from training runs, your legs will be rested and you will be caught up in the excitement of the big day. There is certainly no harm in running some of your LSR miles at PMP, it can be quite a confidence boost to do so. Just don’t do it every week, one in 2 or 3 would be plenty, you don’t want to injure yourself. And don’t run the whole LSR at PMP, if your LSR is 16 miles, you could maybe do 8 or 10 at PMP Your half marathon should give you a confidence boost also, if you manage to hold 8:30 miles for 13 miles then suddenly 9:30 for 26 miles doesn’t seem such a stretch!

Try not to worry! I think every single person doing their first marathon worries about holding the pace (trust me – most of us who are on our second or subsequent marathons are having the same worries!) I think a good push at the half marathon and some PMP incorporated into your plan are the best way to banish those worries!

I'm finding the long runs ok so far. Trying to do them somewhere different to get a change of scenery. I hope to have most of the marathon course covered by the time the big day comes around.

I'd actually rather do a LSR any day of the week over a LT run or my new nemisis... VO2 max :(

That's a good idea re: the course. I was doing all my LSR's out there at the beginning, but I changed it up and currently do mine at the marina/old trainline/blackrock area, just for a bit of greenery, and I like running by the water. Except when the wind is lashing into you like a icy slap.

With the LSR, when I'm out doing them, I'm enjoying them. But if I don't get them done first thing in the day, they can really weigh heavily on me. It's the time between running them, stretching, showering and the slow shuffling around afterwards that's putting me off.

VO2 max is going to be... interesting.

You'll be grand with your VO2, just try not to start out too fast, my first two intervals were faster than I planned and then I hit a wall in the third.

The marina in Cork seems to be the route of choice at the moment! I have done a good few runs there now even though it's 45 km's from where I live! It's just so lovely and flat, and as you say, it's nice to run by the water.

The marina is near where I work so I'm often running down that way if I can get out of bed early enough in the morning. It's a great spot for running - and continuing out by Harty's (sp?) Quay and down by the old railway line is smashing on a bright clear morning. It's great being able to run without having to worry about traffic.
