I wish I were closer to the marina, I'd love to do all my runs there, bit too hilly round by me! You can carry on to Jacobs Island, Harty's quay and then the Rochestown to Passage West amenity path, it goes on for miles, all perfectly flat and no traffic. It's a really great amenity. Now that the evenings are a bit longer, I plan to do more runs there and just do them straight from work.

Went to bed on Thursday night with a slight niggle in the left hip which seemed to get worse during the night. When I got out of bed Friday morning I was hobbling around the place so I paniced and started phoning physio's. Due to it being Good Friday, most were closed but managed to get an appointment for one later that day. I had a hip injury two years ago which kept me on the sidelines for 3 months so I was more than a little worried. Basically after a little massaging of the left butt (painful :() she advised icing 5 times a day and stretching the affected area. She also advised no running until Monday when I could do a 3 mile run and 6 miles on Wednesday if still pain free. By Sunday I was pain free so of course I ignored the advice and ran 7 miles that day followed by 18 on Monday, 5 miles on Tuesday and 8 miles last night with 4 @ LT pace, so how's that for dumb pigheadedness.
Touch wood I'm still ok and I haven't missed a long run yet, just a few of the shorter ones, though I need to get my weekly mileage up. Easy run planned for tomorrow and I'm hoping to run the bhaa 10km on Sunday by the mardyke. Anyone else running this? It's my first 10km race so a guaranteed PB.;)

I'm living in Carrigaline so my long runs are normally carrigaline/passage/monkstown/rochestown/douglas/maryborough hill and home via a back country road by douglas rugby club. From the bottom of Maryborough hill its about 2 miles of uphill so this usually leaves me fairly wrecked by the end but I'm hoping these hills will stand me in good stead come the end of the marathon.

At this stage I think physio's know that we're not going to take their advise to the letter of the law so they add a few extra days... :P
    I bet you didn't ice it 5 times a day either! ;)

I think I need to purchase a hydration belt otherwise I'll to have pick routes with a loop so that I can take on fluids. Any suggestions, are ye all using belts or are they annoying?

Hi K, ya I use a belt alright, 4 250ml bottles on it and a pocket for snacks or keys i suppose? Its fairly handy as my phone clips onto it nicely and I can have the headphones connected to it with the radio on.
One bit of advise is to apply some vaseline to your lower back where the belt rests to stop the inevitable chaffing on those long runs.
I remember last year doing a LSR on a lovely hot sunny day , I was outta water and goosed at 10 miles. Saw this guy power washing his drive and got him to fill up my bottles. Shoulda got a wash down as well I suppose. :pac: I know some people advise training lean, but the water belts are a life saver alright.

Feeling much happier this evening than I did Monday evening. Missed Tues and Wed due to strains but with lots of stretching and rolling was able to carry on from thurs straight thru to today. The LSR's are after getting enjoyable to a point, since I found a new route for them, hilly but interesting.
Here's hoping the legs will now behave themselves !

P&D VO2 and Strides are not letting my glute heal. Going to abandon VO2 sessions and replace with GA sessions. Going to drop strides altogether. Might reconsider all this come May but for now I think it is the wisest course of action. New target time for CCM is sub 3:40 (my PB is 3:40) instead of sub 3:30.

Ran my first 10km race yesterday so I was always going to be guaranteed a PB:). I was aiming for 41mins and just managed it with 40.54. The last 2 miles coming in the straight road into a headwind were tough going and it felt like I was getting nowhere at times. Thoroughly enjoyable race. According to Macmillan that gives me a marathon time of 3.12, yeah right. It boosts the confidence for the 3.30 target at least.
Anyone else run this race yesterday??

That's a super time. You'll be well under the 3:30 judging by that result!

This was a recovery week,Missed a run on Thursday but really struggled with a 15m LSR on Sunday, probably a combinmation of lack of sleep, ran a 10k race on Monday,a VO2 session on Wednesday & ended up racing against myself & the clock on Friday night, ran Saturdays recovery too fast & paid for it on Sunday morning:(.

A big difference in 24hrs,got out for 10m this morn & it felt so much easier than yesterday:D.
This weeks plan calls for a 70m week, including a 22mile run on Sunday, also hoping to slot in a 6 mile race on Friday night which has a climb of 600ft over a 3mile stretch. This is an A to B race so will either have to run the course in reverse afterwards or before the race depending, but will be good to do it & just freshen up the running a little bit.

My big aim is 3:29:59, but I'm not sure if I have the confidience to actually attack that time.I'd safely say I'll go under 3:40 if not 3:35(everything going well)
I wouldn't be a speed merchant by any stretch of the imagination but hopefully the higher mileage will lead to better stamina & hopefully help push me under the 3:30 mark, still 8 weeks away and alot could change between now and then.

Going to have to bite the bullet and book a physio session for this week :(
Right Hamstring is on fire, from glute down to the back of my knee.
Looking at my logs its something that seems to happen 5 to 7 weeks into
the training plans. Funds were/are tight ,so I was really hoping it would go away with stretching and rolling, but no such luck.
Ah well..just gotta build myself up for a good hard pummeling from the physio.. I hope she doesn't mind grown men crying ?! :pac:

Found this week tough all in all, had a 21m on Tuesday after work which was a bit of a drag, but glad to have hit that milestone. Had my final LT run yesterday, but it didn't go particularly well, so hoping a bit of a mini taper will help me in the run up to the Wexford HM on Sunday.

Good solid week for me. Finished off the week with attempting the 5k Marlay parkrun 20:56 offical time (more to come off that for sure - tough course and quite windy). Delighted with a tough 18 miler on Sunday, just over 8mm pace.

Feeling ok after what was one of the toughest weeks of the schedule. Good LT run on Tuesday. Great to have the second 20 miler out of the way, one more to go.

16M LSR on Friday, did it in 2hrs 33, probably too fast for me, was fairly shattered after it and am now wondering how I will manage the 26.2!! Only plus was that the legs were fine on Saturday! Looking forward to step back week.

Must be the increased mileage, but today is the best I've ever felt the day after a 20 miler. Promising.
