I have to say this place is a real credit to Waterford. It's not like you're average restaurant it's like stepping into the owner Kevins sitting room. The portions are generous and the food is delicious and of great value. The service is so friendly the customer is actually treated like an actual person not some random face.I also enjoyed the banter with Kevin over the Cork gaa jumper that i was wearing.:pac: I have eaten in a hell of a lot of Cork citys finest restaurants and i have to say that this place is even better than them in my opinion.According to the their website Kevin and Ken put a lot of work into their business.Im telling anyone i know to pay McLearys Restaurant a visit if their ever in Waterford they wont be disappointed.

I thought the menu was boring and unimaginative, food was good quality no doubt, but pedestrian to say the least.

Was there on Thursday night. Food to die for. Great atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. And the company of the two lads. They are a credit to themselves and to Waterford.

    Take a bow lads.:)

Good spot but nothing to exciting really is it, steak....

Also any restaurant with melon or garlic mushrooms as a starter should be shut down or removed back to the 80s.

Haters will always hate.I don't mind italian but there's too many thai and indian restaurants around irelands main cities. What i like about McLearys is that it specialises in steak and seafood and does it very well.Their evening menu has loads of options i was very disappointed that they were booked out.Whatever you're opinions are on the venue two local Waterford lad's put a lot of work into this place and i have to say Kevin has confirmed what i always suspected. The soundest people in Waterford imo come from St Pauls parish.:)

You can't beat a good steak particularly the steak in McLearys. The chips and the onion rings were cooked to perfection not to mention the generous selections of breads that come with the soup. The food, the service, the whole package Kevin even made a group of spanish tourists that walked in feel right at home.:)

I have to agree that Macleareys is very friendly and efficient with tasty steaks and desserts etc, the staff always go out of their way to look after you but my only complaint is when you book a table for 4, like I have done 3 times already, the first thing they say to you is "you will have to be gone after 2 hours", which leaves a bad impression in my opinion. You are giving them service, close to 200euros for 4 people with food and wine etc and the first thing they say to you is when you have to be gone. Even if they left if until the end and apologized for it but they say it right out.

If it wasnt for how good the food was I would not return for that reason.

Fair enough but the evening menu is very varied. All their suppliers are Waterford companys so the continuing success of this restaurant is good for Waterford.Of course the friendliness of the staff leaves a huge impression on people and they in turn spread the word.So all in all a visitor like myself to Waterford leaves the city with an even more positive impression of the place.

To clarify further I think Kevin is a lovely guy and know him since he started in the trade under David Dennison in the Reginald restaurant all those years ago.
He runs a good ship that is difficult to get a booking in at the weekends cos they love what he gives them.
No argument from me but I like to taste different things when I go out , hence my comments, one mans meat.....

Normal food for normal people. And they also had a special available on one of the busiest nights of the year. Success spawns resentment. As evidenced here.:)

I'm presuming this comment was a tactic to get away with ignoring your connections to the restaurant and hoping your ignorance would lead the thread a stray.....
.... quite an odd comment from someone who just called themselves a visitor to Waterford

80's food is back with a bang - probably nostalgia from the recession
    noticeable returns from
    Steak Diane
Beer Battered Fish & Mushy Peas
    Pies - steak & kidney
    Sherry Trifle
    Porfiteroles & Choc Sauce
    Chicken Kiev
    Stew (beef & Irish)

Funnily enough I only had Steak Diane this week for the first time this week and loved it.

As for McLearys it's really nice and if I were going out for a steak it would be that place are you would choose.however, I don't think it's that much better than any order steakhouse in the county. Casey's in my opinion is just as nice.
