Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi all, just found out I am expecting and I'm wondering if there are other substitute teachers out there in a similar situation to mine. This is my 4th year subbing, have been lucky and got 2 mat leaves and loads of subbing in between with Dept. of Ed. and VEC's. I'm just casual subbing now in two schools so am wondering how much mat leave I can take and how much I will get paid?

    Thanks a million x

Congrats on the good news but if you are subbing-no maternity leave-in primary anyhow and I'd imagine secondary is the same.

    http://www.tui.ie/welcome-to-our-website/second-level-maternity-leave.2113.html

Maternity leave will consist of 26 consecutive weeks on full pay less any social welfare allowance payable on foot of an employee’s social insurance. This paid leave is available to all permanent whole-time employees and to temporary whole-time and pro-rata employees.

Thank you! I know the dept of ed won't pay me anything but won't social welfare give me something?

That's probably done on a case by case basis depending on how much PRSI you have paid. You will have to contact the Social Welfare and ask them what you are entitled to. Nobody here will be able to give you an answer.

If you are entitled to the social welfare payment it is 262Euro per week.

There's something funny bout Prsi and social welfare for mat leave. If you're due 2013, it'll be based on your 2011 Prsi contributions. Least ways that is the way it worked for me.
I was paid each time by social welfare. First time I was covering an extended sick leave, so I was merely I available for subbing if that makes sense. I ad no contract as such. Second time I was just picking up work whenever, wherever, so when it came it closer to due date and I knew I wouldn't be getting any more subbing work, my claim was backdated to when I had last worked. But you need to sort this out first with the dept. ring the mat benefit section in letterkenny - they are helpful. Just record/ make note of the date & time of your call and who you spoke to. They did end up making a mistake on my claim 2nd time round but because I could say x told me y on June 21st (or whatever it was) they accepted it was their mistake and my leave was processed and approved.
Good luck with it all! Hth
