Hi all, just bought our first tank, complete with filter, heater, etc. I have read the cycling thread last night and have a couple of questions. We washed all the fake rock and fake plants and the gravel before putting into the tank. I like the idea of real plants down the line but for now I'll concentrate on learning…

A lot of the guppies coming in to shops are extremely poor quality. They are very weak due to massive inbreeding. The Asian bred ones which make up 99% of what is available in Ireland do not acclimatise well to our water.

I'd recommend visiting a shop a couple of times over the space of a week or so and check on the health of the batch they have.

Endler guppies are a hardy nice alternative.
