Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone suggest decent portable flac player?

    Hi

I am currently using my htc wildfire s with Winamp as my portable music player. The sound reproduction isnt great off it even though all my files are of flac quality. I am using a pair of Sennheiser HD 25 II so I feel I am not getting the best out of them with such a poor playback source. Can anyone suggest a stand alone portable flac player that doesnt break the bank? Thanks in advance

I've used Cowon iAudio for FLAC playback for about 6 or 7 years now and highly recommend them... I've the older S9 but they've more recent players such as this that comes in at a reasonable price -

Worth browsing the various options from Cowon anyway, a great brand with amazing sound quality.

+1 on sansa zip or clip+. even better options and settings with rockbox on board. 4gb player for less than 30 sterling on amazon. 15 more for a 32gb micro sd card to plug into it. 40gb portable for 50 euro.

    hi

Thanks for your suggestion. i googled some reviews there. They seem to applaud the price point and neat size of the device more than actual audio performance which is what im really after. Have you used one and what did you think of audio quality? The reviews ive read of the cowon all rave about the audio performance. I might go for that one I think even though it costs a bit extra. i dont want sumthin that sounds worse than my wildfire s..

the audio quality of the zip clip or clip + is very good. it is known as great budget audiophile option. I've had a few and with good earphones or headphones sound is fantastic.

yeah looks good. the option of expandable memory might swing it for me aswell as the cheap price. Worth a punt maybe...sound quality is paramount for me though, dont care about any other features etc

have you put rockbox on it? you have a lot of sound settings options with rockbox.

    http://www.rockbox.org/download/

you will need to get a firmware bootloader from the sansa website for rockbox to use also. download to your harddrive and tell rockbox installer where it is.

    e.g. for clip zip here

    VLC Portable App
Actually, Just download Portable Apps Launcher. Never install an app again.

Oops, I misread your post. Wrong type of portable :)

yes. in-fact you can dual-boot so you use the normal firmware also at any time. just hold left (rewind) whilst pressing the power key.

otherwise you can completely remove of course. would be surprised if you didn't find rockbox better tho.

A major selling point of the cowon, for me is the jet effects, which allow you to tailor your sound to your earphones. They also upscale mp3 sound quality which is an added bonus if you're a soundcloud junkie like me.
