Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

100% correct! (Honestly, I wouldn't have bet a quid on that question having lasted 24 hours :) ).

Another "?" question. I know how much you love them! :pac:

Here's a list of players who all have something in common (it's quite unique and no one else has done it) :

    Pelé
    Uwe Seeler
    Grzegorz Lato
    Andrzej Szarmach
    ?
    Dominique Rocheteau
    Michel Platini
    Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
    Lothar Matthäus
    Rudi Völler
    Julio Salinas
    Jürgen Klinsmann
    Roberto Baggio
    Gabriel Batistuta
    Fernando Hierro
    Henrik Larsson
    Ronaldo
    ?
    Raúl
    Miroslav Klose
    ?

Can you fill in the blanks?

(hint : the three "?" all have got one club in common that they've all played for, tho not at the same time).

I think it's to do with players who have scored in more than one world cup finals tournaments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

Its players who have scored in 3 World Cup finals. The missing 3 are - Joe Jordan, Park Ji-Sung and David Beckham.

HOWEVER, your sequence is missing one Diego Armando Maradona who scored in 1982,1986 and 1994 (Unless the question relates to scoring in 3 tournaments in a row?)

Correct. (and the yes the sequence was specifically three in a row. Maradona, Blanco and Sami Al-Jaber were purposely omitted).

Since 1992 - when football was invented - 8 managers have both won and lost a CL Final.

    Name them.

I meant including players still playing for countries that were part of Yugoslavia. Apologies if it's phrased badly. I ask because there's one that seriously took me by surprise.

Stab in the dark but I remember Darko Pancev being a big transfer back in the day (like possibly world record or close) . Maybe that's still enough to keep him up there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

I just looked on wiki, Pancev cost £7m. The guy in third place cost between £18.2m and £20m back in the late nineties, depending on where you source your info.

    I'm afraid not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,976 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I can't think of his name but there was a guy went from Fenerbache I think to Real Madrid and was a huge flop of Denilson proportions.

    Elvir Baljić:D

That's him. Signed by John Toshack, I think. Whilst the fee probably was too high he did have a pretty bad time of it with injuries.

    I don't think Cruyff did

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Cruyff won it in '92 and lost it (I think) in '94. I see the question says since '92, my bad.

Is it the number of times clubs have been promoted into the top tier of English football....or somit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

I was going to guess the number of times clubs have been promoted to the premiership but Chelsea haven't been, as far as I know. I'm pretty sure a lot more teams would be on the list if it was teams that have been promoted to the top flight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

Southampton have been promoted to the top tier a few times, anyway, so that can't be the answer.

    No right answer so far.

Clue to help you : Cambridge United have never played in the top division of English football.
