Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Correct.

They even included it in their shirt design for 2006.

If there is nothing pending I will throw one up, quite easy, may have been asked before.

Who holds a record of missing 3 penalties in the same international match?
(not sure if this includes friendlies or just competitive matches)

Yes. He's highly unlikely to ever play for England but could play for another country.

I'll say Victor Moses, played for England Under 21's before playing for Nigeria senior team. Cost Chelsea around £9 million bills.

We got all five. Wickham, Reo-Coker, Curtis Davies, Anton Ferdinand and Dean Richards. Jay Rodriguez was mentioned too but there's varying reports on whether he cost just over or just under £7m.

Moses is a good shout and would have been included had he not played for Nigeria. The question didn't specify playing for England, just that they hadn't played international football at all. Carl Cort would have made it in too but he recently togged out for Guyana.

    Wow a toughy...

I imagine Luis Suarez is one?

I'll throw out some other names as a quick guess:

    Malouda, Walcott, Valencia

    Peter Crouch?
    Roy Keane?
    Nani?
    Emile Heskey?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

    Pires, Lungberg, Duff

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

I imagine at some stage Giggs and Scholes have scored a penalty but I'll throw the 2 of them out there as I never remember either of them being first choice on spot kicks

    Dion Dublin maybe?

Joe Cole is another potential, would've been behind a good few players at Chelsea and not sure if he scored any at West Ham

    Bellamy?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭intellectual dosser

    Paul Robinson the goalkeeper.

Scored a PL goal, but cant think of him taking a penalty.

EDIT: I need to start reading questions a bit better - ignore all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,721 ✭✭✭Al Capwned

Giggs definitely has scored a pen.

Bale can't be too far off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

Ha a return of just one from all my guesses!

Kevin Campbell isn't by any chance right again is he?

I think we need to think of goal-scoring midfielder stalwarts that have had long careers in the Prem. Usually the top striker is also the penalty taker.

Lee Bowyer, Kieron Dyer, Wright-Phillips, Gus Poyet.

Actually is it possible Torres hasn't scored a penalty in the Prem?

(I'm going for the scatter-gun approach here!)

Benayoun might be a possibility too

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,998 ✭✭✭grohlisagod

Torres scored a pen this year against Sunderland. Poyet must have taken one at some point surely. Kanchelskis maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Kevin Campbell and Lee Bowyer are correct, thats 5 now.

Did Cahill ever take Peno's for Everton?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

I imagine he's scored a peno but then again he would have been behind Nolan when he was at Bolton so worth a shot...

    Kevin Davies?

    Paul Ince?

    That's an excellent shout.

Just trying to think of goal scoring midfielders. :o

Could be wrong but I dont think I've ever seen him step up for one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,952 ✭✭✭Morzadec

Probably spelling his name wrong but Leonardson from Norway who played for WImbledon and Liverpool could be one. Seem to remember him getting on the scoresheet a few times and likely enough he never took a pen

Cahill does indeed make the list, nice answer.

None of the others mentioned since are correct I'm afraid

  • Registered Users Posts: 303 ✭✭gav86

Les Ferdinand never used to take penalties and i'm sure he scored plenty of PL goals he missed one before for england in a shoot out in some mickey mouse tournament as well.
Andy Cole never used to take peno's either and i'd say he would be in that top 10.

Les Ferdinand is correct, top of the list in fact.

Andy Cole didn't make it, must have taken a peno at some point

Duncan Ferguson and Niall Quinn. Dont strike me as the peno taking types
