Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This goalkeeper was sent off for handling ball (inside area) in WC finals.

    Who and why?

No idea who, but it was a red card, because one of his team mates passed the ball back to him, and he is not allowed to handle the ball.

I dont know who but I imagine he handled it in the opponents area? Higuita at a wild guess but I dont think so.

Or he came on as an outfield player, although its extremely unlikely in a WC finals

  • Registered Users Posts: 353 ✭✭DubCul

No and it was his own area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,113 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

It must be recent enough as Pagliuca was the first keeper sent off in a WC finals in 94

  • Registered Users Posts: 353 ✭✭DubCul

Sorry, can't confirm it. It was Luis Suarez v Ghana.

He handled goalbound effort and was sent off.

Version I read originally said he told ref he was going in goal.

Was suspended for semi which they lost.

My apologies, should have checked other sources before I posted

Can you name 7 foreign players (non Irish or British) with first name Paul who have played in Premier League?

The list I saw had 7 but it's possible there are more.

btw, The ONLY punishment for a keeper handling a backpass is an indirect free kick.
Not even a booking - Dowd was wrong to caution Mignolet recently for Sunderland.

    Carry on..... :pac:

Would Southampton's Paul Gazzinga count ;)

Paul Bosvelt played for City, only remember him for his reckless tackle on Dennis Irwin when he played for Feyenoord.

Not including any derivitives of the English name Paul, eg, Paulo, Paolo, Pablo, Pavel etc...
