    Not Denilson.

This player isn't South American and has never played for a team in that continent.

    Nakamura?

Edit: Disregard, he played in Serie A...

No you're spot on actually, I made the mistake of thinking Reggina were in Serie B.

I made a right mess of this puzzle. :o

Ah ****e, I was enjoying having a good old think about that one! :pac:

    This one might be easy:

    - I'm not retired and I've never played for an English team.
    - It's been over 10 years since my last international cap.
    - I've won 2 trophies in Asia, more than 10 years apart.
    - I've transferred from a team in one continent to a team in another continent 7 times and counting.
    - I've played in 2 World Cups, but not consecutive ones. I didn't win either.
    - I have, however, won more international trophies than Rivaldo and Iker Casillas have (not combined).

Pretty sure I know this one, played in Lansdowne Road in a 0-0 friendly with Ireland when he was at a big European club....?

    Ze Roberto?

Anyone going to enlighten us with an answer on this one? Cant figure it out even going through Irish friendly 0-0 draws in the 2000's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,465 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    Isnt the answer above correct?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

Sorry, the answer was Ze Roberto.

The trick clue was winning trophies in Asia over 10 years apart. The trick being the wording "in Asia" and not "Asian trophies", as one of them was the Confederations Cup in Saudi Arabia in 97.

I knew there was a trick to that. Absolutely rattled my brain! Good one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    Another one, perhaps easy.

    - I'm one of the few players to have won a World Cup trophy and a Champions League trophy..
    - I've played for 2 current Premier League teams.
    - I have the same number of letters in both my first name and surname.
    - I've never played in Italy.
    - I won my first senior international cap at 22, but would only ever manage to score 1 goal for that team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,520 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

    Nobby Stiles?

EDIT: nope, one letter too few in his first name. :(

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭mickmackey1

I'd say Champions League trophy means post-1992.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Rekop dog

    Víctor Valdés

    Edit: obv never scored

could be golden boot in both?

not gonna win the world cup golden boot with only 1 goal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    Another clue:

    - It's not speculation to say I have been personally responsible for at least 1 manager losing his job during my career

    Juan Mata?

Not sure if he got a manager sacked...

I thought him also but I'm sure he has scored more than once for Spain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

Good guess with Mata, but not him.

He has 10 goals for Spain and got his first senior appearance at 20, not 22.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    Another clue.

    - In the space of 3 years, I played in a Champions League final and a UEFA Cup final. I was only on the winning side in one of them.

    Samir Nasri

EDIT: Nope, missed the Spain part

    Fabregas?

    Bobby Moore?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

    Nope, another good guess though!

Happy to give an answer as a spoiler tag if you want, or just to keep giving clues?

    - I've only missed 2 penalties in my career. One of them in a cup final.

    Davor Suker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,160 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

    Fabregas?
That was my guess also but he made his senior debut much younger and scored a lot more than 1 goal for his country

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 392 ✭✭Footoo

    Any chance its Davor Suker?

WC Golden boot in 1998 for Croatia but did he play for Yugoslavia before that?

He did, and only scored 1 goal for them. but he never won a world cup

He won the u-20 World Cup

Edit: though if you include that as the trophy then you should include the fact that her scored more than 1 international goal at that level so maybe it's the golden boot

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Rekop dog

If it is him it's quite a tenuous/bordering on trick question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,465 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Must be Suker, Croatia finished 3rd place in the WC98

    From Wiki,
Currently, all members (players, coaches, and managers) of the top three teams receive medals with an insignia of the World Cup Trophy; winners' (gold), runners-up' (silver), and third-place (bronze).

These trick questions are head wrecking :D

A medal is not a trophy though

    Correct!

To answer some of the more cryptic clues:

    - As head of the Croatian FA, he fired Niko Kovac as Croatian manager last year.

    - He received a call up to the Yugoslavia senior team at 22, and played in 2 games, scoring 1 goal. Then Croatia received UEFA sanction and he played for them going forward. I specifically said he only scored 1 goal for the team he received his first senior cap for.

    - The World Cup Golden Boot is technically "a World Cup trophy". I was careful to say he won a World Cup trophy, and not "the World Cup trophy" or "a World Cup".

He didn't win a champions league trophy, his team did, he won a medal, if you're going to be that pedantic.

I think most people say "Player X won a trophy" when referring to what the team they played for won. Had I said a medal, that would have opened it up to runners-up also. It's just a game :)

Just a game? Just a ****ing game!!!!

When you're scouring through West Germany world cup teams at 1:30 in the morning it's not just a game.

Jokes I didn't lose sleep over this I swear.

Here's one with no trick clues.

    - I've won both the Champions League and UEFA Cup.
    - I've played in all the "big 4" leagues - England, Spain, Germany and Italy, despite not playing for any of those national teams.
    - I scored more goals in Italy than I did in the other 3 (England, Spain, Germany) combined.
    - I have never played for a non-European team.
    - My brief foray into management has not seen me last more than a season at either of the 2 clubs I've managed.

    John Dahl Tomasson

    It is indeed JDT.

I'll give it a rest for now :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,520 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I'll go for one so, shouldn't be difficult:

-I wasn't born in Europe but have never played for a team outside of there
-I have played in exactly one World Cup
-I've won a league title and a European trophy for an English club
-I've scored more Champions League goals than goals for my country
-I have more relatives in football than I do domestic cup medals.

    Kolo Toure?

edit: Yaya more likely than Kolo, Kolo was well after Liverpool's CL.
