hi im trying to work out how many food outlets have closed and how many opened since 2008.
one factor is the upward only rent that may have casued established outlets closing. higher costs/gas electric and so on.

but on the other hand there has been a number of places opened and seem to be doing well.

i myself look to boards for info about restaurants and the like.
so im hopeing for a good response to this one.

one example would be the likes of say the bistro on patrick st hill, was going for a number of years, they closed its doors an now its opend back up with new people.

it doesent have to be one closing and new owners move into the place. but that is just one example.

i know boards is the hassel free way of getting this info.

cheers and thank you for your input

I can't remember what it used to be called before.

Do you remember the little cafe down stairs? It's gone years and they did very nice vanilla slices. Then there was the Harvest (across the way), great chips and toasted sandwiches... is the Harvest still there?

Fraid so -- high rents, crazy rates, not enough custom to go round. The Bills mount up fast enough

I remember Mairead's well:D. Used to go in there on a Saturday as a teenager, amazing vanilla slices. The Harvest was great too, it was huge inside, had lovely lemon meringue pie:P
I can't believe Brunch is gone:(. Went in there a couple of times a week for a cuppa, the staff were so friendly. Plenty of room for buggies, you didn't get in anyone's way. I worked in there briefly about 20yrs ago, when it was Loughmans.
