The idea that any of the above pundits would circle like vultures around a young player like Jackson is laughable!

Has Tony Ward ever said a bad word about any player for instance?

If anyone is going to get heavy criticism, it will be Kidney.

what's the story with kidney and ROG. Do the two boys not get on?

Jacko played terrible for ulster last friday night, his scuffed multiple kick offs and his longer range kicking is eratic to say the least.

So did ROG have a crack at his wife or something?

I'd say it was the fact that Madigan would be immune from criticism while Jackson being an extra terrestrial Northerner wasnt was what drew the eyes.

The pundits certainly will be looking for any opportunity to say "I was right" in regards to ROG starting because the others didnt have the experience.

Yes, for 70 minutes (though I suspect he'd have played a lot less if we hadn't encountered as many injuries on the night).

He didn't take the kicks though.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at in a previous post. Plenty of pundits look foolish now, sticking up for Kidneys apparently nailed on decision to go with ROG. A bad performance, and they'll be justified in saying ROG, but can put the boot in to Kidney for bowing to the pressure. For Kidney, the easy decision would've been starting ROG - his cheerleaders would've backed him.

I rather like Toner in the tight. Sure he isnt making breaks or whatever, but every time he gains ground in the tackle.

And the time's he doesnt he still does simply by virtue of his falling over.

Ah the old ROG v Jackson chestnut, hah?

ROG is in the same position as O'Leary was in August 2011. Kidney desperately wanted to pick him but his performances were so bad that it just couldn't be justified.

He didn't have a great game but he wasn't bad at all, whereas ROG went out and kicked 2 from 5, none from a great range too, kicked out on the full, missed touch and failed to run a backline at all.

Jackson is playing infinitely better than ROG at the moment.

It is laughable that Ruan has to share kicking duties with Jacko from time to time. Look at their records. Not saying that given time Paddy could improve, however he is not even close at the minute.

personally I'd call it a geriatric that should have retired years ago. He is in the squad because he is the 3rd choice 10 and Jackson missed the first two games of the 6 nations through injury.

They are (sorry were) talking about taking Fez on a lions tour and he has not laced up in months. It's about class not form, I'm not sure Jacko has ever shown to be a top rated player!

PAULWATSON, when was the last time ROG played to his fullest ability in a top level game?

My own opinion is the Quarter Final against Northampton in 2010.

You can't pick a guy for Ireland when he has had no form for a while.

In my opinion Ferris has shown more ability in his 193 minutes of rugby this season than ROG has since the start of the 2011/2012 season.

So should the entire Munster team (at least the IQ parts of it) from the 2008 HEC final show up on sunday to play for Ireland. 6 of them are retired because they are too old/injured to play pro rugby anymore, ROG should join them.

ROG hasn't been good enough to play international rugby for quite a while now.

This "class not form" is total crap. Perhaps we should coax Keith Wood out of retirement?

Also, "It is laughable that Ruan has to share kicking duties with Jacko from time to time.". Yea, it's totally laughable that the best 9 in Ireland who happens to be fantastic from the tee sometimes takes our kicks. :pac:

It certainly isn't based on form.

You appear to have difficulty answering any question referring to the last few seasons. ROG winning the HEC 5 years ago is not an example of something he's done better than Jackson this season, which is what I asked.

Also, ROG would have looked equally as bad in that game. Hell, Carter would have looked bad playing 10 in that game. Ulster were simply comprehensively beaten up front.

I'm not a big ROG fan, I was just think he should be in before Paddy. Of course his form has dipped, not even worth debating.

Still think Jacko has to develop, which is hard with the situation here in Ulster.

That's about the only argument that they can really make for his inclusion though. I can't see any other potential reasons for keeping ROG at 10, can you?

I can't see Court getting ahead of Healy. Healy is just on another level imo but I would love to see Court pulling out a top class display. It could prove himself as deserving the 17 shirt after being unlucky to be dropped from the squad in recent weeks.

Squad position of course. Does some job for ulster, look for him to lay down a couple of huge hits early on followed up by a bit of hard man show boating as they "get to know eachother".

I usually anticipate dire performances from Ireland after having my heart broken too many times but I'm getting really excited about this one. I can see great performances from all over the pitch. Jackson, Marshall, Gilroy, Kearney, Heaslip, Court. Just a few with more to prove that usual. I'm predicting Ireland by 10+

Yep, I am! Don't think match conditions have been to suit for him yet bar maybe first half in The Millenium Stadium. If we can get off on the front foot from the start and create space, I can see him ripping them apart. All depends on how game flows for him to show his true worth IMO.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,339 ✭✭✭Artful_Badger

A wingers attacking game really depends on the amount of ball they get and usually in the Irish setup wingers dont get too many opportunity to run it with space. Not sure how much Jackson and Marshall can change that but if Gilroy gets the service I've no doubt he'll do some damage.
