After 2.5 years due potential 2.5 times cheaper price ( we had 4 bin deliveries in 2012 only) we thinking to switch from Greenstar to Thorntons (new offer 50Eur for year green bins + 10Eur/black bin prepay .

We know, the Greenstar is Green Award winner the last 3-4 years and even when they charge much more, they still facing financial challanges.
So our main concern is, are Thorntons keeping up to their standards they claim http://www.thorntons-recycling.ie/compliance-introduction ?

We don't want dumping anything in landfil.

Any inside info? you can drop ca ll to me ( easy to google my fone ) , will ri ng you back, if you don't want to post here.

    what else to consider?

    Thorntons:
+ just 50Eur/year for up to 26 recyclings (3% of any payments if booked online)
+ 5Eur/140L bin prepay lift option or 10Eur/240L bin lift (3% disc applies)
+ brown bin 4.5Eur/lift for food waste given (we will use it ourselves) ( 3% disc applies)
    - 60% recycling rate
    - no glass collection

    Greenstar:

    - 220.38Eur/year Band 1 (13 lifts of purple bin) ( p.s. next day after this post got a call from Greenstar rep, saying about Prepay option, which would stand at 203Eur ... they offered discount as well )
+ SMS reminding in the eve
+ not too early in mornings in Bray
+ GreenAward.ie and other good deeds sponsor www.greenstar.ie/about-us/sponsorships-awards
    - poor online site, which was introduced just now...surprise for such big company
+ not ignoring, if green bin is open due cardboxes ( not a big deal as we started compost them)
    + 70% recycling rate
    - No glass collection

If you only had 4 bins picked up, why not use the pre-pay bags, and skip the €50 annual fee? Drop your recyclables off yourself at the supermarket car park recycling banks, or the council depot when you are passing that way.

We do deliver glass, batteries in recycling centers , but other recycling stuff is too much in our house, so we use 26 deliveries. Plus you need to sort all stuff. 50Eur/26 = less than 2Eur per delivery. Can't be better than that

If the goverment were any way serious and acting in a propper manner.....then the property tax would include bin collections.

Paying a property tax should mean a bin service and a water service as part of the Property Tax price.

But typical FG/Labour and their money grabbing antics.

OK, let's keep this thread on-topic. Political rants belong in the Politics Forum.

We got Thorntons welcome package today.
And small surprise is with what can and cannot be included in bins ( i might scan a copy as too much to list ...but things like NO stones or grass or wood in black bins sounds strange )
Have anybody mentioned the differences between any companies?

The nice surprise, that Thorntons run the best in country Organic waste composting center
Also they are Repak award winner 3 times and finalists in other 2 years in the last 5 years.
