I considered 39 .. a5+ against Philip Short but after 40. K x b5 I only considered Qb6+ which didn't seem to get anywhere but in fact Qb8+ is much stronger.

Both make life quite uncomfortable for white for a few moves though :D (You can see why stockfish doesn't go down the Kxb5 route but legs it for c3 immediately).

Interesting match on table one today as Rory Quinn put it:
Today sees the clash of the top 2 seeds on board 1 as Colm Daly faces off against David Fitzsimons. A win in that game for David would really put the pressure on those chasing not to get left behind. Conversely a win for Colm would throw the event wide open again.

Ten minutes into board 1, and the only move is David's 1. e4.

So either a technological glitch, or Colm is late as per usual. Fairly disrespectful, but par for the course there unfortunately.

Here was me thinking it was either a glitch or a reverse Bronstein and we'd have another while to go for the first move :D

...and there we go into the Gunderam defence.

how come only senior section of irish championship was rated ? glorney cup already rated.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,266 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Results haven't been sent in obviously.

Doesn't matter anyway; with the new site, (a) we get the updated ratings faster than ever before and (b) the Irish can be inserted into the correct order (i.e. behind the Glorney, and ahead of the Branagan/Killane/Brennan if needs be) and other ratings get adjusted. And your rating doesn't officially change (for tournaments) until September, so no real issue.
