Can anyone recommend a private dermatologist in the limerick area?

For my father who is suffering from pretty much an all over body itch and the GP hasnt been able to cure it.

Dr Ramsay is an excellent dermatologist, and a gentleman.

Be prepared for a bit of a wait to get to see him though as he is in high demand.

I think Bart Ramsey is the only one around. He's very good but you may have to wait to see him. Maybe stress the urgency to the receptionist.

Is there a wait even if you are a private patient?

When I first went to see Dr Ramsay in late '09/early '10, I was private and had to wait ~ 3months to see him in his rooms. This was despite the fact that my GP wrote an urgent letter on my behalf, and I got on the phone and pleaded my case with his secretary. At the time, Dr Ramsay was about the only dermatologist working for the HSE in the mid-west. I know that they have appointed more dermatologists to the region since, so maybe Dr Ramsay's workload has been reduced and might be able to see patients that bit quicker.

FYI, should you get to see him privately, prepare yourself for a hefty initial consultation fee (€200 iirc).

There is a Dr Khan, dermatologist, working in Barrington's:

You could also try the Galway Clinic - I have met with a Dr Trevor Markham there and found him quite good.

Imho, Dr Ramsay was the best and has certainly helped me a lot.

Why wouldn't there be a wait?

Even private doctors have waiting lists. It's not as if they're sitting around waiting for patients to turn up. They will all have extensive practices with possibly hundreds of patients who will need to be seen at some point or another, and ultimatlely they will all have been triaged or sorted so that the most urgent is seen first, regardless of who your insurance company is.

    Fecking VHI-itis...

Piss off with your high horse. We have no VHI.

Just willing to pay the cold hard cash to get the problem sorted.

    HI Guys,

My budget is unfortunately not that healthy so I am just wondering how much does Dr Ramsay cost to see?

OP I'd definitely advise you to go private with Dr Ramsay if you can. I was switched from Galway to Limerick as a public patient and opted to see another Dermatologist at Limerick Regional as Dr Ramsays public patient waiting list is so long. I have absolutely no confidence in my current Dermatologist at Limerick Regional and I truly wish that I didn't have to be treated there.

Has anyone ever had any experience of this dermatologist based in Adare, Dr. Naomi Mackle ?

If your user name is anything to go by would you not go see Dr Loughnane in Newcastle West? I found his excellent and only €50 compared to the €200 if you go to see the others....

Sorry to bump an old thread.
I'm looking for a dermatologist in Limerick city or county.
Has anyone any experience of going private or is it best go the GP referral route?
    Thanks.

Dr. Bart Ramsay is excellent. He runs the specialist skin care unit at U. H. L. and also has a private practice in O'Connell St. Very knowledgeable and has genuine concern for his patients. Waiting time about three months (public).

+1 on John Loughnane in NCW, as good as any of the dermatologists around.

He's a G. P., not a consultant dermatologist. What makes him "as good as etc..."?

He is a G.P but he is quite respected as a dermatologist too.

His availability in normal practice is very handy.
He isn't my doctor, I've only seen him on foot of a referral from my own GP.

He solved in 15minutes of review and consulting what multiple Drs and 2 other dermatologists had been treating unsuccessfully for over 2yrs.

He made a huge change to my quality of life and it has persisted.
I'd happily recommend Dr Loughnane's services.
