I believe if you raise a hand to anybody, you have to be prepared to recieve one back regardless of gender, Obviously i dont mean using brute force there is a difference between an back of the hand slap and a punch, But if you do raise a hand you should be prepared for repercussions, No one has a right to physically assualt anybody!
I wish that would stand in court when a bitch gets a return slap to the face. Doesn't work that way unfortunately. Only if she was actually stabbing you to death would you not get into trouble for giving a return slap.

It's easy to say walk away but when someone hits you first, most of us will react.

As Mike Tyson said, "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face."

I never got slapped by a woman but a fella gave me a thump across the jaw one night in a pub and yeah I gave him one back.

It's easy to say walk away but when someone hits you first, most of us will react.

    Why? What does that achieve?

I'm not trying to be ultra-liberal here or anything. I know a lot of people would react in the same way, and the guy shouldn't have punched you in the first place, but what does punching him back achieve?

I don't support violence by either men or women towards either gender. They're all as equally bad as each other.

I've been punched on several occasions, by both men and women and I never hit back, despite probably being stronger/more skilled at fighting than at least two of them. I'd only hit out in self defence.

Probably would have given her a good right hook, she wouldn't do it again. Of course if it got lairy with other lads acting the "white knight", I'd make sure I had a good run at the door and/or some sort of weapon nearby eg a glass, bottle, sharp object.

And that, is how things escalate quickly.

One rule for those "people" (females) and one for us gentleman.

If a gentleman tapped a woman's bum he'd be jailed and or become a registered sex offender. Whereas a female can kill a gentleman and turn on the waterworks and get away with it.

Not every case is the same and not ever judge is going to hand out suspended sentences.

Just to clarify my earlier post thast could have been worded better, women are just as capable of doing physical harm as men are, however i just meant that a slap should not be met with a punch or a bottle over the head etc, Not trying to say any sex is inferior, just that a slap shouldnt be equal to a punch in return

There have been plenty of threads lately about sex offenders walking away after paying fines or getting bail after serious crimes.

And that guy didn't 'tap' the woman on the bum, he whacked her after following her and scaring her enough to be calling on her phone for help. He was no 'Gentleman'.

Why classify the genders as 'gentlemen' and 'females' anyway? And 'those people'??

He's making a broad statement that females would get away with it though.

She did, but its not par for the course.

Of course the case he linked to is out of line, but its not fair to lump things into gentlemen vs females.

I actually figured you might have been on about the case where the guy followed the girl down the road or whatever
Just so we're clear: I feel like a jackass. :o

It makes me absolutely sick. But I've given up fighting about it at this point.
NOT because of a barrage of opposition from some angry "feminist" (read: man hating) types, as I'm sure some lads here will claim. That happens, but ignoring trolls isn't difficult, at least for me.

No, because from what I've seen a majority of my fellow men couldn't give a f*ck, and a sizable number of those will go on to actually defend double standards. :(

Such is the reason men will never have equal rights in the areas in which they are discriminated against. For some reason, a huge number of guys out there actively oppose other lads who don't like double standards. And so they will probably never go away.

Look at it this way - we're constantly told that it's an abomination that our parliament is so overwhelmingly male. Our parliament is also responsible for family law, for the outrageous statue that makes evil rapists and innocent victims out of consensual sexually active teenage boys and girls respectively, etc etc etc. And it's a parliament full of men which is refusing to change any of these.

Sadly, lads, if you want the source of these double standards, I'm afraid you may need to look no further than your fellow man. While there are certainly women out there who love these privileges, there seem from my experience to be an equal number who detest them (particularly those who date separated fathers and see how it is for them). We're constantly berated for the fact that it's lads making all the rules, and it's those very lads who uphold misandrist laws.

Think this over before you blame radical feminists for double standards next time. Trolls only succeed where ordinary people feed them.

Don't forget one thing though, the same people who hand out lenient sentences to women are probably the same ones who think women are stupid when they wear very short skirts and are then raped. There are still a lot of dinosaurs making decisions and it's going to take a generation or two to change.

Sorry but that's BS. I don't know why lots of people think that on boards.ie but it's not true. In this country, men get away with assaulting men, women get away with assaulting men, women get away with assaulting women...it's nothing to do with sexism, it's just our sh1t justice system.

I don't know about statistics for each country - but I'm almost certain there is a difference in some countries. I think I've read some statistics from the UK and US and it does seem to be the case that women do get lighter sentences. I have no concrete evidence in front of me right now but I always thought it was something even the dog in the street knew? Still, sentences in general are ridiculously lenient for both sexes - that I agree with.

I don't know the statistics either but until we have them it's just speculation really.

What I was getting at though, was the whole "if she's a woman she'll get off x y and z sure just look at this case" that people often chime up with. As if that proves a point that if a woman assaulted someone seriously or murdered them or whatever, that they'd get off because she's a woman. Which is nonsense. I could provide links to cases where men get off for rape, murder and assault until the cows come home but that doesn't mean there's some conspiracy about men getting served more leniently by the law does it?

    Proof?

You wouldn't get sentenced for punching someone in the face anyway.

The link that was provided there was a bar assault on a man by a woman. Yet there are countless assaults of men on men who get off leniently too. Yet if a woman gets off leniently there must be an agenda? How does that make sense

Slapped once, I'm morto. Slapped twice? I'm well slow and need a good slap. Does this make her a slapper?

I'm not gonna get into this too deeply since I'm not particularly concerned in this case with serious assault etc. Because in those cases ofcourse everyone deserves whatever they get - I'm concerned with what the OP deals with. If a woman smacks a man in the face there won't be any huge reactions, whereas if a man smacks a woman the police would be called. (just to clarify btw I'm not at all saying men should be allowed hit back - that obviously solves nothing, just women shouldn't think they can smack men for (often) trivial reasons and get away with it)

Absolutely. If we're talking every day situations, a man punches a man, it's "ok", a man hits a woman "he's a monster", a woman hits a man "not a big deal, man up".

Huge double standard in society about it, and as has been mentioned it's not just women, in fact I'd almost bet (and this is just a personal opinion) that it's more men that hinder getting rid of this double standard than women.

But in terms of legal cases, there are countless cases of assault of either gender on either gender that goes unpunished. IMO it's nothing to do with gender, it's just the terrible legal system we have.

The rationale by some judges (and some people in general) seems to be that females are not innately violent, whereas men are. So they rationalise their verdicts by basically insinuating that the woman must have had a very bad once-in-a-lifetime reaction and that it's extremely unlikely to happen again, yet if it were a man, it would probably be thought that he was genuinely violent because he was a man. All cases should be judged in an individual to individual basis, but it doesn't seem to always happen.

A violent woman is just as bad as a violent man. I am actually of the opinion that a violent woman is even more aggressive than a violent man when it comes to fighting. Women seem to be much nastier, even though they are generally weaker than men.

    Much ado about nothing.

You do not know anything about the relationship between those two people. Maybe she wears the trousers and that he does what he is told, in which case it would be mostly their own business and not necessarily worthy of a national debate.

    Hold off the lynch mob.

I've never been in a proper fight in my life but if some chick hit a close friend/family, I would personally be dug out of her. It's a scummy thing to do, think it's okay to hit a guy but be the first one to go crying if a guy hit back. If you throw the first slap, deal with the consequences, IMHO
