I have tried on and off for about six months, but I have never been able to get my laptop to actually play anything on my LG TV.

I have tried everything, but still no joy, so any advice would be welcome preferably before I take a large lump hammer to my PC
and smash it to pieces :))

So this is as far as I get: Standard VGA lead from AsUs laptop to LG HD TV, "connected" and up pops the start up gage from
the laptop = Windows XP (So far so good), then my laptop wallpaper appears, even better! > but without the cursor or any desktop icons :(

This is as far as I ever get > any ideas whats wrong?

Are you using the extended instead of the cloned desktop?

Good question, how do I find out?

Right click on the desktop > Properties > Settings

Highlight the 2nd Monitor, clear the box "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".

Now I have nothing on the TV screen, not even the laptop wallpaper!

Maybe some Fn key combo to activate the external display, check the symbols on the function keys (F1-F12) and press the key with the monitor symbol in combination with the Fn key. Usually, there are three steps, 1. laptop monitor only (default), 2. external monitor only, 3. both displays.

No no joy, either with the box ticked or not!

Interestingly the names for both monitors are identical.

Back to my laptop wallpaper but no curser or desktop icons

This means extended display. When you see the wallpaper on the TV, your laptop monitor goes off? Can you move the mouse over to the TV, either to the left or the right?

Make and model of your laptop?

Well thats novel, with the laptop on, and the TV on I can manage to move the curser up the laptop screen to the top > then it appears on the TV!

Nothing else though, still no desktop icons, just me lovely wallpaper.

Just one more thing, am I correct in saying that the Audio is a seperate issue? I'm guessing that I run it from the headphone socket to the TV using a 3.5 stereo jack to two phono plugs lead. (probably a new name for phono plugs nowadays).
