A double for "Shakey" Byrne today

Great racing as usual in the BSB

Brooks was going hell for leather in the final lap of race 2, dont no how he stayed on the bike :D

    Great 600 race...Wilson was xcellent...missed Richards though...

Great double for Shakey, wish he'd passed Brooks sooner..i hate that follow the leader crap....nice to see Kiyo back up there...Lowes was off the pace and off the bike ....:)
Good results for Chris Walker too...long time fan...

By the way I'm trying to organise an interview with Eugene Laverty over the weekend so if anyone has any specific questions let me know and I'll try and fit them in
i know its a little late but, brother michael races under the union jack and eugene under the irish flag, but why?

Why is riding under the Irish flag...???? or maybe you could answer that...

He applied for his race licence through Motorsport Ireland. Anyone living in NI can apply to the Irish or UK authorities. To the best of my knowledge the flag your race under corresponds to where your licence was issued.

I think I was mistaken with that Max.

Id love to see Eugene Laverty on the Tech 3 M1 in MotoGP next year.
There will be a seat going there (if Crutchlow heads off to Suzuki,as is rummored to be).

Maybe there might be 2 seats,as Bradley Smith is only on a 1 year deal with Tech 3...(thank god for that)

Eugene on an M1 would do a hell of alot better than Bradley Smith, thats for sure.
i think yamaha already signed pol

Eugene on an Aprilla in Moto GP has been rumoured recently - and given Alexi Espagaros pace on the Aspar Aprilla it might not be such a bad move !

eugene is no Aleix Espargaró, or even alexi espargaros
why leave a championship he might be capable of winning to fight it out with his brother for 15th spot, ducati are way behind but when they come back to form, with the possibility of suzuki returning, an aprilia superbike versus a prototype, no chance

Eugene is hugely talented andmore than capable of being a top gp rider. He was arguably more impressive than crutchlow on an inferior wss bike. He won't be coming to motogp for anything less than a top bike though, where did the aprilia rumour come from by the way?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 202 ✭✭stephen97

not sure its the first that ive heard about
eugene is great but still trailed behind max and trails sylvain, these two were average riders in gp , max was great in 250 but not in 500, runner up still lost the championship
but ill still support eugene flying the flag

Its been a few days but (and I am open to correction) but while being interviewed on Eurosport about riders/engines for next year etc ,Paul Bird made a comment about a manufacturer pushing for a certain rider to be in motogp next year - Jules(or Toby?) commented, so more Ulster accents then next year. Aprilla had been discussed immediately before the comment.
Paul Bird also let slip that discussions are taking place with Honda - that the final decision will be made over a few beers and that Jonny Hernadez was suggested to PBM by Dorna (with a quip that you dont say no to Dorna).

Very possible - but I would see Rea being primed for a second LCR or the Gresini Honda (if they can afford one)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,444 ✭✭✭frostie500

Ive heard nothing linking Eugene to a ride here (he'll only move for a factory deal by all accounts) Rea on the other hand is a logical target. He's a HRC protege and they would be delighted to see him on one of the production RCVs next season. Birdy has mentioned the Honda as well as a possible bike for next season, along with using his chassis and a leased Yamaha engine. They're ruling nothing out and if they drop Hernandez they would be looking to put a Brit onto the bike making Rea (who races under the Union Jack) a solid candidate.

I'm just after arriving at Laguna so I'll see if I can dig anything up over the weekend

Indeed it is Johnny Rea not Laverty - Japanese manufacturer ie Honda is pushing for him to be in Moto GP

Some bad news coming out of Moscow. The remainder of the race weekend has been cancelled. It's said to be due to the atrocious weather conditions. I really hope it's not connected to the accident :( I really hope he is okay.

Is the 2nd WSBK race canceled aswell,as a mark of respect?

The rest of the race weekend has been cancelled. Originally stated because of safety grounds but I'd imagine the accident was the real reason.

As allways when something like this happens do you remember and realise the dangers of this sport and how close all these guys are to the limit of what they are doing.

    R.I.P Andrea.

id love to know what channels coverage you were watching when you got that sinking feeling
personally i was watching eurosport, and when the crash happened, at the back of the straight, cameras were on Sofuoğlu and lowes, and in the distance were water spray and pieces of fairing flying about, but no replays and no actual view of the crash on eurosport.
just interested to know the channel you were watching

I think anyone watching 'cept u it seems, knew straight away it was a bad'n.....bikes and bodies flying around..........IMO bike racing is dangerous enough without water added..its sad that its really all about the TV and money and riders safety rarely comes into it these days....

    R.I.P.

Brilliant BSB at Brands as usual..cracking 600 race....mental stuff....

The Germans are pulling out of WSBK, is this the start of a mass exodus from the paddock of all the factory teams?
I can't help thinking Dorna's rule changes are behind this with more or less Superstock rules in place its going to be a privateers dream.
The gap between SBK and MotoGP will be big, maybe too big for it to be a stepping stone to MGP.
Who is left now? Aprilia, Kawasaki in factory teams and the rest are more or less privateers including Ducati and Suzuki.

frightening crash's on oil for Rea and Camier in race one, broken femur for Rea and Camier flown to hospital for precautionary checks

Pretty high speed, lucky Camiers bike didn't go in at same spot as Rae

Such terrifying looking crash when it was shown live, thank god Camier missed Rea. Bad mistake there from the marshalls not waving the oil flag. At least they were on the ball at the end of race 2 when they stuck the red out after the crash.

Looks like Aprilia have offered a contract to Melandri in WSBK to team up with Guintoli which will leave Eugene out of their factory Superbike team but there's persistent rumours that he'll be moving to Aspar in MotoGP. Looks like Hayden will be confirmed at Aspar before Aragaon and it looks almost certain that Espargaro will move to Forward Racing. De Puniet has struggled this year so I would imagine he'd be happy to spend the year testing for Suzuki and get back onto a prototype in 2015 which would leave a spot at Aspar open for Laverty.

It would be great to see him in GPs next year where if it happened we'd have two sets of brothers in the premier class!

Will there be a penalty for Esparago to break the contract with Aspar? Provided he wins of course.
