Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

After School Center.

    Hi Everyone,

I am exploring the possibility of opening an after school center focusing on children from the age of 4-5 yrs to 12 yrs. The reason because from working in a creche facility with the after school children I found they really disliked coming into the place because it seemed to "babyish" for them . Which I can understand.

I would like to find out what people would want or look for when considering an after school facility for both parent/carer and children.....

Any advice or ideas would be great.

    Thank You! :)

Would homework be supervised? Would there be an opportunity to play outside? What kind of food would be provided? Could the child attend an after-school activity (eg music class) nearby?

I have a child who attends such a facility who is on a special diet. The facility is in the school grounds.

Thanx for the replies :-) yes the main focus would be on homework being completed in a supervisory manner and then activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor activities within a fun relaxing capacity for the children. Hot Food would be provided and any dietary needs will be met also and the children will be collected from school. As parents/guardians would there be any specific ideas that would be wanted or expected?....

One issue I have is that my facility is a 'facility'. What I mean is that it is not very homely. Everything is put away at the end of the day to return the rooms to emptiness. On a wet Winter's day the atmosphere is cold. I would love if it were more cosy. A few rugs to lie on, bean bags and a couch. My child is very tired after the school day and needs to relax. I feel sorry for the kids staying there late maybe until their parents pick them up at 7pm.

Humm I understand what u mean....a home from home atmosphere. my idea is to take into consideration not only the parents views but also look for what a child would like. Because at the end of the day if the children are happy, the parents will be too :-)
