Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The mood has taken me for a Crisp Sammich - and it got me thinking to an age-old schoolyard debate. Which crisp does the fine citizens of AH consider the best crisp out of the 4 here?

Walkers Cheese and Onion for the win.

Is a 'crisp sandwich' just two pieces of bread with a handful of chips between them?

None of those would be in my top four. Doritos, Pringles, with dip and also Meanies.

Taytos taste like they were rubbed under susan boyles armpit for an hour

    No posh crisps? O'Donnells?

    I'm outta here...

For a crisp sambo, Tayto and about half a pound of butter on really fresh white bread.

    A nutritional vacuum :D

ETA - outside of the crisp sambo equation, O'Donnell's, Kettle Chips or similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Killer Wench

And you totally forgot about Doritos.

For all I know there could be mayo, cheese, or meat on the sandwich.

We make ours with tuna salad, plain Lays potato chips, and white bread. Nom nom nom.

    Walkers Sensations or Tipperary crisps.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

Where are the kettle crisps? A cheese and onion crisp and mayo on buttered bread(proper butter)sandwich is hard to beat. Time to go cook dinner now, not crisps sadly.

Tayto cheese and onion for sandwich.

McCoy's steak flavor for best overall crisp.

Walkers are crisps made by someone who has heard about flavoured crisps but hasn't actually tasted any.

    They are RANK.

    Sam Spudz crinkled crisps FTW

    King Pub Cheese and Onion.

Even though Keogh's and O'Donnell's have really put pressure on the big swinging dicks of the Irish crisp industry.

    No to foreign crisps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭breadmonster

For the perfect crispwich: bread, butter, bananna and king crisps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,761 ✭✭✭pappyodaniel

    What about those hipster~crisps 'Tyrells'?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,084 ✭✭✭oppenheimer1

3 out of those 4 above are manufactured by Largo foods. O'Donnells are made by Largo foods too.

You can't beat Tayto Cheese and Onion though.

I've always found the idea of a crisp sandwich pretty revolting.

    King for the win btw.

Is it which is the best crisp for a sandwich or in general? For sambo I'd say hunky dorys cheese and onion, in general I'd say walkers sensations Thai sweet chili or those bacon fries you get in the pub

I hate the taste of Walkers Crisps they would be at the very bottom of mylist right next to Doritos & Pringles.

I love King Crisps the taste reminds me of a different brand that that you cant get anymore called Jackets where they left the skin on the potato when making the crisp. Used to get em in the 90's

I know King do a Jacket version in a green bag but never seen them in Ireland.
(And see some pics on some english crisps that indicates Walkers took over smiths?? to my horror)

Anyone remember Smiths Salt n Shake and variants where they gave you a flavoring in a sachet and you
added as much or as little as you liked.

I remember them, but only from holidays in England and Wales. They were pretty much the only crisps you could get on British Rail trains.

Had Keoghs Turkey and Stuffing before Christmas, lovely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 355 ✭✭Moghead

Those King Burdocks salt and vinegar crisps in the golden bag are savage.

Has to be tattooed cheese and onion for a crisp sandwich though, loads of butter and really nice white bread. Maybe a slice of ham too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,554 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    No mention of pringles???

    50% crisps, 50% MSG

(maybe not entirely accurate proportions, but who's counting?)

Tayto gets my vote, although just as a crisp. I've never actually had a crisp sandwich, I don't really like sliced pan bread.

The McCoys meaty multipack are all lovely, steak, bacon sizzler and chicken. Yummy.

can you class bacon and scampi fries as crisps? If so they're the Bee's Knees!
