Nobody knows if that is true or not. There have been reports of Serie A taking them to court over missed payments but even that doesn’t seem to have been reported in mainstream media.

Meanwhile, things we do know:Tommy Bowe will present eir Sport’s rugby coverage from September:

Tuned in the Premier Sports 2 HD stream on satellite and see that it's currently Eir Sport 1 HD for the F1. Didn't realise they'd be sharing that channel too.

    Whats the frequency for this?

Ligue 1 has been picked up by BT.

Seemingly confirmation that eir Sport 1 will, finally finally go HD on Sky. Only took eight years.

It had been what I'd seen on Digital Spy as Premier Sports 2 HD on:

    11508.50 V 92 DVB-S2 8PSK 23000 2/3

But this has seemingly just become Eir Sport 1 HD by itself

It's on the Sky EPG now, currently channel 873 without a HD swap so far.

I wonder if that is accurate ........
will be free to air in HD on eir sport 1

Going on past performance it will be Free to View and not FTA.

I’d be surprised if that was not the case.

Free to view on Sky ? What does that mean, as in what level of Sky sub is required ?

No level of Sky sub, but you do need a Sky digibox and a viewing card (this can include a cancelled sub).

Ok, thanks, obviously it's only that match, I tried eir sport 1 HD just now ( sky sub ), and it's encrypted.

Just tweeted them there and they confirmed it is HD on sky, so that's good news. The fuzzy vision was hard on the eyes...

Only they haven’t implemented HD swap yet, so good luck finding it if you’re not “in the know”. Hopefully they’ll sort that one soon.

Did you ever check if it was actually Premier Sport 2 HD?
It was Eir Sport 1 HD for approx a couple of weeks and was anytime I watched it.
Pretty sure Premier Sports 2 was only ever available in SD.

Access the Eir/BT pack for no extra charge if you have Eir broadband.

It was probably only speculation over there at the time that it was going to be Premier Sports 2, as the stream appeared not long after the Freesports HD test dropped off the same transponder and, if I remember correctly, this current stream started testing with an upgrade screen around the same time Premier Sports 2 SD had launched. It's why I expressed my own surprise a few pages back to see Eir Sports 1 HD appear when it started clearing a few weeks ago.

I'm tied to Vodafone until December, but will probably switch to eir for broadband then, especially if I can get a better price and have eir sport/BT sport thrown in for free.

Eir Sport 1 HD is now channel 421 on Sky.

Slightly off topic I’m hopeful someone here is more in the know than me!! I’m not a big sports fan but the kids are. Currently have Eir sports and sky sports. Need to dump one as I’m broke!! Which has most premiere league matches this year? That’s the main interest kids have.

    Thanks.

Sky Sports by a mile. Eir Sports pack gets you BT, they show 1 match per week at 5pm, Sky have the rest.

Not quite completely true - BT do also have a handful of other games on midweeks and Sundays - in total 42 fixtures. But the substantive answer is still the same - if you can only afford one package, and only want the Premier League, go for Sky.

Sport on pay tv is fast becoming like when you go to the newsagent for a magazine, you don't buy every magazine on the shelf, just the one or two you're really interested in. Unless you've money to burn, it's now a case of which platform gives most coverage to your particular sport, then pay for that one ( if you can afford it ). The days when Sky Sports had pretty much every sport worth looking at ( and paying for ), are long gone.

You can probably break it down as follows:
    • Soccer fan (Premier League): Get Sky Sports
    • Soccer fan (Champions League/Europa League): Get Eir Sports (or Virgin Media)
    • Soccer fan (European Leagues): Get Eleven Sports
    • Rugby/Ice Hockey/Baseball fan: Get Eir Sports
    • GAA fan (National League): Get Eir Sports
    • GAA fan (all championship matches): Get Sky Sports
    • American Football (NFL): Get Sky Sports
    • American Football (College): Get Eir Sports
    • Golf fan (except the USPGA): Get Sky Sports
    • Golf fan (but just the USPGA): Get Eleven Sports
    • Cricket fan: Get Sky Sports
    [sarcasm]So it's simple really to make a decision...[/sarcasm]

Just a sky box with a card inside, it can be a Freesat by sky card I don’t think it matters

Formula 1 fan, get Sky Sports.
Formula 1 fan who likes quality over quantity, get Eir Sports (sadly just for the rest of this year)

Is F1 confirmed gone from Eir from 2019? It'll be exclusively on Sky then?

    Yeah, afraid so.

    http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12430/10215419/sky-sports-to-show-every-f1-race-live-from-2019-until-2024

Extraordinarily long deal, done by Sky with the previous management at FOM...right before the commercial rights holders for the series were bought out by none other than Virgin Media owner John Malone.
