Anyone been to the new one yet? How does it compare to Marley?

havent been up yet, hoping to go tomorrow. Do you know how high the fencing is? and can restricted breeds go in?

Was up on Sunday when it opened. Haven't been to Marley so can't compare but it was a bit smaller than I'd hoped , more like a large back garden. Fencing was just below hip height (I'm 5"4).

Hmmm, Marley is about the size of a soccer pitch (maybe a bit smaller) and quite high fencing. Still, it's got to be better then the last one in St. Anne's! Is it grass even?

It's much smaller than the one in marley so and no it's a wood-chip sort of material.

The last time i was there, i thought the fencing was comical. Some dogs running under some just stepping through and others jumping over.

yeah i really hope its solid fencing, not like the last fencing with huge gaps!

I was over there on Sunday for the first time. By the sounds of it the only thing that has changed is the wood chips.
Do you have a large or small dog?
The small dog area has wood chips and is fenced in quite well but still quite low. The large dog area is large area but the railing is not fenced like the small part.
Basically it has a railing but no fencing between the gaps, sounds like it looked like this previously from your description.

The first area with the wood chips has a gate leading into a larger area behind it - its grass with some hills and some trees etc. Its all one area but the wood chip area has tighter fencing to stop smaller dogs getting out between the bars. My own dog would be able to escape through the bars in the bigger area as she is small.

Walked by it yesterday. It was empty as always. New additions are two great big signs with Rules of the Dog Park written in English and, of course, Irish. Can't remember them off hand but there was some pretty petty rules that will mean no one will ever use it IMHO.

Another waste of money unfortunately. Money that could have been used to provide more bins around the park so dog owners will pick up their dogs' poos and bin them, but that would be too much like sensible!

I think it's a great idea that they have give an area for the big dogs, sometimes the littles dogs get bullied by the bigges in Marley. Will have to go over mid week so, it was packed on Sunday and I spent my time gaurding the gate into the little area as there is no latch on it and my guy loves to prey/play on the little guys :(

Yeah, it's a great idea to have a seperate section for the small dogs. I'll check it out over the week and report back (maybe with pics)

i was there for the opening on sunday along with 3 other staffies and a pitbull.

nothing was said about the restricted breeds, the pitbull was even allowed to run around off lead. she's still a smallish pup so no aggro expected.

personally i wouldnt let mine off in there as the fencing is far to small for an athletic dog. 1 sight of a squirrel and she'd be gone.

the dogs were having some craic though :D

I've been there last sunday and I loved it.
Maybe smaller than marlay park, but with the trees it's nice and my puppy had a lot of fun in the big dogs area :P

Small dogs capable of squeezing through the fence, large dogs like my hyper, athletic huskey will pop over in a heartbeat at the sight of another dog/squirrel/child who looks good for a hug! :(

I was there yesterday and also the Sunday it opened.
I brought three small dogs with me, one being a pup and think it's brilliant for them.
It helps them to socialise and play with other dogs. They all really enjoyed it and I commend the council for opening it.
The only concern I had was that there were some clueless people leaving the two gates open at the same time so you would really have to watch people coming in and out like a hawk especially the young kids.
But other than that it's great fun and a nice addition to the park.

I found the same problem little miss lady. Or even worse my big dog realised there is no latch on the gate into the small area and just pushed it straight open and wandered in

Dog park is an excellent facility... One complaint would be that the gates need a spring or a latch to ensure no escape artists make a break for it..

Small dog area is covered with woodchips, large dog area is normal ground and given the recent weather conditions is quite muddy...

Have been visiting 2 or 3 times a week since it has been open as my beagle cannot be trusted off lead unless he is fenced in and both the dog and myself have made a number of regular friends here..

    Google is your friend :-)

As stated above, next to model car track. You won't get lost don't worry.

hehe Thanks!! Another question though - where to park? I was in Dollymount the sat of Paddy's Weekend and swung by St Annes afterwards around 11:30 and it was bedlam with cars looking for a spaces but from the map I was in the wrong place lol - the Mount Prospect Ave. side

Parking is closest down at the car park beside the pitch & putt course.

    Bring wellies.

There is a car park up beside the tennis courts & pitch & putt/golf area - or just park on the road. & stroll in! I was up to my oxters in mud there even with Wellies last week.

Problem is becoming that some parents think it is a dog park for kids - families without Dogs visiting to pet the puppies ( which is nice & it's lovely to see kids being introduced to dogs); however the big problem is kids running screaming & unsupervised with packs of overexcited dogs chasing each other & unsupervised kids holding sticks at face height to 6 or 8 excited & barking dogs . It's an accident waiting to happen. Saw a family with 4 kids & no dog enter & take a stroll through the 3 sets of gates to then start to scream at people to mind their dogs & put them on leads. Problem is ,it only takes one stupid parent for someone's dog to be in big trouble.

Woohoo we found it! :D I just followed the barks. ;) He had a bit of fun but tbh when I saw all the dogs off lead I let him off along the stream and he had more fun there! Are the allowed off officially? Unfortunately when he was playing in the stream he tried to climb out where it was a bit too steep for him and grazed his eyelid so he has a back eye now! :(
The gate system is a bit ridiculous - people coming in and out without closing after them and dogs getting out. When we went in the first time there was just a few dogs in the small area (different sizes) but we passed again a little while later and there was loads of dogs in both parts. Some of the smaller dogs were able to jump out thru the fence so a bit dangerous. Also lol he didn't like the bark stuff catching in his hair :P
So apart from a shiner another nice spot to add to our list with the added bonus of water for him and I can stay dry - and on our doorstep with us on Botanic Ave. We have a park right beside us but nice to go somewhere different at the weekend! :D
