Litter fine query

I received a letter in the post a few days ago from my local city council requesting that I pay a fine of 150 euro. This took me by surprise, as I'd been following the building that I'm living in's rules for disposing of waste. Once every 2 weeks we leave our bin bags out in a hallway and the landlord collects them and places them somewhere outside for collection. Apparently, the landlord has been putting them somewhere that violates the council's rules.

Soooo, my question is...who's responsible to pay this fine?. It's in my name, so clearly they found some identifying document in my rubbish but it was the landlord's mistake that resulted in a fine.

Potentially you, your landlord and the waste contractor (landlord?) have all committed offences.

Find out what has been happening the rubbish and get the landlord to take responsibility.

This happened to me yrs ago. Landlord was taking our refuse from apt in Sligo and dumping it in Cavan. I got letter and fine from Cavan CoCo. I called and explained I was never in Cavan and our landlord looks after our refuse collection, here are his contact details. That was the end of that.

I hope it's as easy for you!

I informed the council of that and was crossly told that everyone is responsible for their own litter. Which I accept (what galls even more is that I'm an environmental scientist...). I've been trying to convince my landlord to take responsibility. He swiftly conjured up a letter of appeal yesterday and proceeded to sign my name to it. He phoned me just as he was about to post it and I had to urge him not to post such an illegal and insane document. I suspect this may become a difficult problem to solve..
