    Hi,

Can you recommend a pair of book-shelf speakers in the £150 price range. I have a Rega P2 turntable and a Yamaha AS500 Amp. Most of the music I play would be rock/americana.

I was looking at the Q ACOUSTICS 2020I

Would this be a good match ? If so, what is the best price for this and a Sony BDPS590 MR with delivery to Leixlip, Co. Kildare.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

    Anthony,

thanks for the post and nice turntable!

The QA 2010i are currently £148.50 but if you are playing a lot of rock I'd probably try to stretch for the Q Acoustic QA1010i with a Tannoy SFX SUB which I can do as a package at £169.95

This combo would sound great with an AS500 and some decent tunes - I heard the SFX Sub playing today in a really gig living room and it sounded great - really quite low bass but still lots of definition and control..

Keep me posted if any of these are of interest,

All available from stock and ready to ship or for collection,

    Thanks again,

(Sorry I forgot about the BDPS590 - available from stock in Multi Region guise at the moment at £139.00)

    Hi John,

    Many thanks for the reply.

You suggest going for the QA1010i but you've linked to the QA2010i - can you just clarify which you are recommending ?

Also, if it is the QA1010i that you're recommending, will the Tannoy SFX SUB help make up for the short comings on the QA1010i that are mentioned in this review: http://www.whathifi.com/review/q-acoustics-1010i

    Thanks again,
    Anthony

    I'M Tired,

Apologies for the 'missing link' and the late response!

Yep exactly what the review says pretty much bears out my logic - the 1010i's have lots of detail and scale but not a hugh amount of Bass - which is where the Sub comes in (again exactly as the review says) - there is a huge amount of merit in a budget speaker doing one or two things really well and not attempting to do everything in a mediocre manner- ie it's pretty difficult to get a small or medium sized box to produce great bass & treble at a reasonable price - this requires expensive bracing, expensive drive unit materials and great build quality - however if you split the tasks between two dedicated components the result can often be better than the sum of the individual parts and to be fair the price of the SFX Sub is what make this combo work.

This may not be a combo I would recommend for every type of listening but for rock this combo will give you great detail, attack and that vital OOOMPH!

Keep me posted and again apologies for the delay getting back to you,

    ATVB,

    John Mc & Crew
