Remember one of the lads who worked for my dad being give 2 period fire places for free from the drawing and dining room of a georgian house being renovated in rathgar. It was cheaper for the owner to buy 2 monster hideous looking yokes than get these repaired. The owner wasn't short of cash as he spent 2 m renovating it but just didn't want to spend the money needed to fix them. There lying wrapped up in bubble wrap in a garage now!:(
There really should be preservation orders placed on these fire places, cornicing etc. so little exists of this great period where tradesmen really were highly skilled.
