I think alot of this fight is going to be GSP having Diaz pinned against the cage inflicting very little damage just stopping Diazs boxing and BJJ.A long slow fight with a very pissed off Diaz at the end of it.

Really hoping for a upset WW is like a bottle neck with GSP as champ.

I predict death by leg kicks.

Anyone catch the UFC158 Media Call, why is Nick Diaz such a childish little twerp?!

He honestly spent a solid 25 minutes of the 45 minutes feeling sorry for himself. I had a bit of time for Nick before i heard this media call, i hope GSP beats him on Saturday.

I think i heard him say 'they should take elbows out of the UFC'

    what a joke

Nick has unparallelled lunatic level cardio when fights are going 'his' way against 'moderately topp-ish' opposition. When 'he' dictates the fight by throwing 1 billion arm punches like a sniper using a plastic pellet minigun he wins. But not at this level. His cardio for throwing endless punches is incredible sure but nobody at all thinks he will be able to do that against GSP. Instead, his cardio will be pushed, purposefully, in a completely different way by GSP - he will be forced into defending himself from explosive shots, recovering from slams, using physical strength to limit GSPs damage from dominant top positions. Nick hasn't got much muscle mass, in the right places, to be explosive enough to push Georges away, rotate him when on the fence or flip him or defend from side control or half guard or stop the takedown once GSPs arms connect together on the cage wall. His whole body type and fighting style is about work rate and peppering shots but with a monster like GSP who is ultra-comfortable with his parrying distance and with possibly the most explosive strength 'per lb' in the business I reckon Nicks going to fail at his 1 billion snapless-punch game, get taken down like watching a duck getting shot with a 50 Cal, then spend most his time defending while trying to 'look' busy and then fade physically and finally get dismantled.

Diaz no showed the open workouts today :D

Dana's pissed by sounds of him on jim rome if Diaz losses on Saturday he's gone.

If he wins and no shows anything he'll strip him of the title

Diaz is a joke. No respect for his obligations yet he'll bitch and moan incoherently for ages about not getting respect.

i really hope GSP smashes him and he gets cut.

Even if Diaz goes out there and puts on a FOTN performance, he should be cut. He's disrespectful, unprofessional, and a liability.
He can only blame anxiety on so much. At some point, it goes from suffering with anxiety to just not being a nice guy.
He's not worth the hassle in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to this one, I don't particularly like either of them, but it should be a great show. If I'm betting, I'll go with GSP to finish him by KO, I think he'll box a lot more than usual, try beat Nick at his own game, and I believe he'll do it too.

No way will it be a win by KO.

    Why not?

I think the same no way he'll KO Diaz

All i can see here is another boring 25minute, Greg Jackson inspired decision win.

Not excited in this fight at all

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 595 ✭✭✭Steve O

    Why not?

Why would he risk standing with Diaz? Gsp will take him to the ground and grind for 5 rounds, like nearly everyone else he has been in the cage with the past 5 times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭garhjw

I could see a tko win for GSP. In my opinion, Diaz is being given too much respect/credit. I think GSP will show him to be an unworthy challenger. GSP will have an excellent gameplan and Diaz, like all other fighters coming out of his camp, will have little or none.

Goes with out saying it will be a long fight with GSP inflicting little or no damage.

Ya I think so too, we can always hope to be wrong.

I think Dias posses more of a risk on the ground to be honest.

Not against GSP, I know he has a good ground game but GSP is unmatched.

I just wonder will GSP avoid controlling Diaz on the ground in the same way he was hesitant to stay on the ground with Jake shields.

I'm still calling death by leg kicks.

GSP will beat Diaz. GSP's speed will be too much for him and he will probably win a wide decision. The Jim Rome interview was excellent today, great questions asked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Xlami

If Nick Diaz losses I think he's dangerously close to being cut. I know he's a very popular and exciting fighter in most peoples opinion but he commands huge salary, and where does he go from here. Same could be said of Nate Marquart. Welterweight has a lot of guys on high salaries who will never get the belt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭SDTimeout

I'm gonna say there's no chance Diaz gets cut even if he loses in horrible form.

He's not Jon Fitch his fights are exciting. There's too much hype around him, too big a draw, he would get WSOF / Bellator a lot of fans if he went there.

Zero chance of Diaz being cut.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,139 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr. Manager

I wouldn't say zero chance of being cut but would have to feel it's pretty low. He'll probably just give up some of his purse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭unknown13

Zero chance of being cut is nonsense if he looses. He has annoyed lots of people and if he gets cut, it is warranted. Wait and see he will do something at the weigh ins.

Ah I don't think you can say zero chance. Diaz gets $200,000 dollars a fight, Dana doesn't like him and has already talked about wasting money with a Primetime crew chasing him around. Also factor in while he is exciting if GSP wet blankets him it's a very wrestler heavy division. I know I'd love to see a Diaz Vs Koshcheck or Diaz Vs Stun Gun. But I'm not sure the casuals would. What do you think Bellator would pay him to fight in a tournament?

Not much because he is such a liability.

Nick is in fine form! Really getting under GSP's skin.

Yeah GSP was saying he wasn't angry but you could see it on his face. I think he's just eager to get passed Saturday & not have to deal with Nick Diaz again. Nick needs to understand that to get respect you have to be respectful, talking across people & interrupting questions about the Condit/Hendrix fight isn't respectful.

That's just the Diaz gene ;)

Wonder is Diaz stoned during these pressers as he starts by answer the question, which lasts all of 5 seconds then finished up somewhere totally different.

    I hope Diaz wins

But it sells his fights and brings in the cash.

You said that "Nick needs to understand that to get respect you have to be respectful, talking across people & interrupting questions about the Condit/Hendrix fight isn't respectful"

I was stating that Nick and his camp could not give a flying fudge about respect from other fighters. He acts like an ass because it gets people talking about the fights and talking about him and in turn brings in more cash. If Nick was a respectful fighter he probably wouldn't have a title shot and would be getting about half his normal purse.

I said this because in almost every interview/press conference I hear Nick Diaz talking about how he doesn't get any respect.

its been reported if diaz fails the drug test he will most likely be cut. If it is being said this soon, then they are clearly thinking about cutting him if he looses.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 595 ✭✭✭Steve O

I bet secretly, Dana is loving the press Nick is giving the UFC. Though if he fails the drug test he won't be loving it I suppose.

If GSP wins who cares. The result will still stand because GSP won. Diaz wins and fails the title. He will be stripped and GSP & Hendricks (if he wins) will fight it out for the vacant title.

The chance he gets cut is not zero. If he gets popped for marijuana for a third time he'll prob get handed a hefty fine, a ban and be cut. I'd say there is definitely a greater than 0% chance he tests positive.

Has there been much extra press outside of the MMA sphere?

As far as I can see, Diaz is only news where any other contender would be news anyway, he's just loud about it!

Unlike Chael who I think does play a character I really do think Diaz is a bit of a C### but I do think he exaggerates it to hype fights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭Sean Quagmire

GSP to win in round 5 is 22/1. Round 4 is 19/1. I see him stopping diaz in the champ rounds.

No value in going with the most predictable GSP wet blanket decision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,940 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

I think 100% Diaz fails his drug test,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,940 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Anyone else think GSP looked so uncomfortable at the end of the press conference when it came to the pics with Diaz ,
Iv never seen hm like that before,he looked real nervous
But in saying that he'll more than likely on his game come fight night,

Very tempting. I'm thinking GSP is pissed enough that he's going to humiliate Diaz for a few rounds, then the gap in quality means it'll be a great time to answer his, "GSP can't finish people," critics. Hmm...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭magic_murph

Diaz will fial his drug test - he was definitely stoned during that presser - he uses for anxiety etc which in the state of Calafornia is legal.

Either way its an exciting fight and one I have been looking forward to for ages.

Jesus, Dana bit the head off him!

Obviously he's trying to keep Nick from blowing the gasket but it was a perfectly legit question and wouldn't have gotten that reaction if it were any other fighter.

^ White ripped Helwani in the media scrum afterwards too when he asked a question, the mermaid must have done something to piss him off, as he is a bit of a golden boy with the ufc

anyway, GSP by leg kicks as has been said above.
