Ok so I'm moving to Wexford and I'm wondering what it's like for a new person who knows nobody there!

Is it easy to meet new people ?

Are there many clubs to join ?

What area are best to live in?

Or would it be better to commute and live in Waterford or Kilkenny ?

    Thanks In advance :)

Wexford town is a good spot to live in,it has pretty much everything you need.Property is cheap enough & there's a few natives of the town that post here who'll point you in the right direction.

BTW, another plus is that you are a stones throw from one of the best beaches in the country.

Thread here from somebody who was in a similar situation as yourself.

    Hey Karie,

Wexford is a great spot ... I'm slightly biased seeing as I've lived here all of my life, but it has pretty much everything you need. DEFINITELY wouldn't recommend commuting from Waterford as it's a dump (sorry Waterford folk but it is!), 4 years in college down there was enough to make sure I never go back! Kilkenny is supposed to be a nice spot but if are going to be based in Wexford for work or whatever then I'd highly recommend it! We have great shops, pubs, beaches, restaurants and music!

Where to live is a bit of a tricky one to answer. It depends on if you want to be in the town centre or base yourself outside a bit. House or apartment? Price range? Redmond Road/Carcur area has some good value apartments to rent. It's a 2 minute walk to the main street but without the noise. Ummm, there are loads of apartments to rent in Clonard Village at the mo and they look gorgeous (Celtic Tiger shtuff!) But most websites claim that they are in the town and they're not. Well, technically they are, but jesus you wouldn't want to be relying on your legs for transport if you lived there! Plus there are no pubs or anything around there, just Woodies and Aldi and some empty industrial units! It's kind of hard to advise on where to live without knowing what ya want ! :)

With regard to meeting people, there are lots of classes and clubs you could join, depends on what you're interested in though. You could contact Wexford Arts Centre in town about art/cooking/music/movie groups. There's a really good camera club too that are real into the social side of it too and you can be a total beginner.

There are always good music sessions in the pubs around town as well (and we have over 25 pubs in the town centre alone so no shortage there!) The Red Chair Music Sessions in Bean and Berry cafe on a Thursday night could be a good way to meet people outside the pub scene. The best pubs in town in my opinion would be The Sky and The Ground, The Thomas Moore Tavern, T Morris and Maggie Mays.

If you're into sport, there's the Menapians Athletics club, the Tennis Club, the Womens Rugby club (who are always recruiting new beginners), there are always new classes and groups meeting up to do random fitness things. The supermarkets usually have notices up too with groups and meetings.

Hmmmm .... trying to think of other advice .... basically Wexford most definitely is a great place to live and is majorly underrated in my opinion! Hope this helps in some way!!
