Ok, I hope I can explain this properly. My mom got a gift of a tablet yesterday. She lives in a different house to me. When she goes on the internet she can see all of our searches (and searches in her house) going back to 2007. I have used my ipad, phone, another tablet and phone on their wifi in their house but how can this be happening. I am nearly 40 and too old to have parental controls on my searches haha. Seriously I am concerned as I would have also used my ipad, phone etc in hotels on their wifi's. Please tell me I am missing something really obvious here, but I can't understand it. We are both with UPC, but I have only changed to UPC since 2012. Thanks

GO INTO your browsers, delete all history, download chrome or iron browser.
I dont see how see can see browser history from a phone or pc,fro a different pc or house.TABLETS use different browser s from pcs,
unless shes on wifi,eg picking up signal from your house,She,d have to know your wifi password.
USE incognito mode ,private mode in browser ,settings, menu, spanner, chrome incognito.
This leaves no history of web searchs or websites.
    WIFI range is about 20ft.
    https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/chrome/browser/
    http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php
    http://www.google.com/search?gcx=w&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=delete+browser+history

Maybe see just looked at your phone,or pc history.
She,d have to be a super hacker to monitor your phone ,pc,
history from an apple or android tablet.

ITS A Good idea to turn off file sharing on your pcs,

    http://www.it.cornell.edu/security/howto/filesharingwin7.cfm
otherwise anyone on your upc network can look at your pc ,folders etc
She maybe trying to discuorage you from looking at a website,
by pretending to see all your browser history.
And go to control panel, accounts, give each pc a password, administrator account
    eg 123GHJ,
set up A GUEST account password qwerty,
a guest can use pc, but cant look at your browser history.
OR install programs.it makes pc more secure .

I don,t see how she could see ipad, tablet searches from 2007,
when she just got upc installed in 2013,
or See,s just looking at your phone, ipad, browser, history ,when you leave the tablet down for a few minutes,
put a password on your IPAD.

this sounds hoky to be honest...dont see any way for this to happen unless you had one google account for all users and syncronised everything across all computers...even then i dont think this is possible.

Methinks mammy is having you on

she ,d need a pc connected to your network to do all this, use browsers
incognito ,private mode, no history is recorded on pc or tablet.
if you are in a hotel use private mode too.
Make sure your wifi security is on, you need password ,eg 123dfgHJ to log on to router,
i,ve seen many open wifi networks ,no password needed.

Thanks for your replies. @ riclad: she only noticed the history when she turned on the new tablet. I have previously used her pc in her house, my ipad, phone, tablet in her house on her wifi. I could have logged onto my gmail also on her computer. Her tablet has not been in my house - she lives in Dundrum I live in Clonsilla (so not even close) I have not had my ipad in her house in approx 2 years. I searched a question about attaching a microphone to an ipad in my house in January - that exact search question is showing in her history. If she is a super hacker it is by pure mistake - she has not seen my phone or anything like that in ages - she wouldn't know how to work them. @whomitconcerns - she actually rang me thinking that I had bought this tablet before and returned it to powercity and then my dad just happened to buy it (so this is not spying on her behalf as she just wouldn't know how too). I actually set up her gmail account here in my house and we would have both logged into our gmail accounts in eachothers house - I wonder if this would be something to do with it. She doesn't have any of my passwords or anything.
I have liteally set up parental control on our pc here, using microsoft, as I am trying to keep an eye on my kids. Quite relieved that we have only been searching normal everyday stuff (thank god haha).
My daughter did have her tablet in my parents house about 4 weeks ago but she was literally playing games on it (too young for anything else). I have password for my WIFI as do my parents.

Some browsers ,retain the gmail passwords , website password, username, in cache, unless you delete
    browser history,browser cookies.
With her permission you could go to her tablet browser, erase all browser history.
ONLY other thing i can think of is change username on your router ,in settings, security, advanced.
    see here,
    http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wirelesssecurity/tp/wifisecurity.htm

go to router ,security, settings, switch off upnp, universal plug and play,
    turn off remote management.in security,settings.
    http://cybercoyote.org/classes/wifi/security.shtml

    http://cybercoyote.org/classes/wifi/dns.shtml

You can switch your router to use opendns,

    http://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/parental-controls/
make sure pc firewall is on.
opendns means your pc uses dns server, not from upc,

    http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587/

    EG you get to google.com , rte.ie thru a diiferent dns server,doesnt
effect your web ,internet acess speed.
    its MORE secure.

you need to go to router webadress, usually
    eg www.192.168.1.1 ,

or go to www.upc.ie home broadband, faq router ,security settings et

Turn on firewall ,in your router, security,
    as well as pc firewall.
when using gmail, etc outside your own house, use browser, private incognito mode.wifi security should be wpa2 mode.
use opera , firefox on phone, not the standard android browser.
    http://www.google.com/search?gcx=c&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=secure+android+browser,
if you are signed in ,to google accounts,
using chrome, browser , on your mothers pc, your passwords ,browsing history may show up on her network.
    IF she has a pc.

    SEE http://www.upc.ie/customer_support/manuals/?tab=promo_tab1

When using browsers in her home, log out of gmail, log out of chrome, if logged into
youtube, facebook, etc even if you are using your own tablet,Laptop
    When finished ,
    don,t use a password like 1234,
or admin, user1 , on browser ,gmail ,facebook etc

    I've another interesting one.

Yesterday, my laptop (running Vista) crashed due to a hard drive error.
Today, I just replaced the hard drive, and installed Windows 7.

I installed Google Chrome, and it asked me to log on using my Google password, which I did.

I then went to Boards.ie and noticed that the login screen already had my boards userid and password filled in.

I would have thought that this info was stored in a cookie on my previous hard drive, and I would need to re-enter all my logins & passwords again.

Does Google store all this info also?

IF you use someone,s pc or tablet, and log into chrome,or gmail,
it may retain your username, gmail, chrome, password, and certain cookies ,for your google accounts,
Depending on the os, browser settings,
so another person may have acess to your email ,or chrome browser
settings , without meaning to ,be able acess your info.
JUST switching down ,tablet,pc is not enough .
This happens even you are logged out ,of gmail, chrome on your home pc, or laptop.
The best thing,is just user browser, private, mode, and log out, when at at a hotel,
or using a network ,eg not on your home wifi network.
if on a pc,use the guest account .

I bought a second hand, laptop, last week, when i go to youtube ,it seems to remember ,
videos i watched 4 weeks ago,
in chrome, browser, even though i never logged in to my youtube account on new laptop.

Most tablets have no user accounts, or guest account, assume anyone that uses them is the owner.

if possible use her tablet,GO to gmail, see does it login to your gmail, automatically,
or does it ask for a password.
OR just change your gmail password,on your home pc.

Tablets are designed to be easy to use, not setup for high security use.

I checked gmail once ,on the new laptop.

    Yip.

I'm guessing you logged into her tablet with your gmail account.

Her tablet now has access to your gmail account, which is a big long record of all your oogly googley activities dating back to the account creation date (presumably 2007)

Solution: reset the tablet, and have her set it up with her own ****ing account :pac:

make A NEW google account on that laptop, gmail, chrome, etc
    it should erase previous cookies,passwords.
then knock, off tablet, TURN IT ON again, look at google search history.is it blank?
INSTALL iron browser on all your pcs, it sends NO INFO to google, keeps no user records,
    more secure than chrome.
