Salt depot, apparently. My husband's friend works for the Corporation and told him so...

That sounds right, one of the buildings has mass concrete walls.

The proposed development consists of the construction of a Salt Barn on lands adjacent to Ballyvolane Fire Station between Spring Lane/Ballyvolane Road and the North Ring Road in the City of Cork.
It is proposed that the Salt Barn, when constructed, would have the capacity to store approximately 1,000 tonnes of road salt required for essential winter
maintenance. The proposed development will comprise a single storey building of concrete/masonry construction with a maximum building height of 8 metres and a steel clad roof. It is proposed that the building will incorporate a salt storage area within a floor area of approximately 256 square metres, as well as a small office and a machinery storage area. The external area will include a paved forecourt.
