How penalising is the runway width? I know that both the 737/A320 have narrow runway operational supplements, but do these have any performance considerations apart from VCMG?

On 737 30m is the minimum width and we have to reduce the crosswind limit. Standard would be 1kt less per meter less than a normal 45m runway.
By pure numbers yes a 737 could easily land and take off empty. With about 5 tonnes of fuel for takeoff on a standard day with dry runway only about 1100m required for an engine out go distance. About 900m required to land with similar weights. I would presume the pavement strength and taxiway width/clearance may not be up to scratch, but then that’s probably the least of ones worries if they find themselves in WAT on a 737!.

    Update:
Aer Southeast will begin flights this year!

Aer Southeast is now a part of a company which has its own Airline Operating License, AOC.
It's been a long road, but a lot of work has been done behind the scenes in order to secure the operation.
Due to circumstances out of our control, which included a long period of time when Waterford airport was in deep discussions with another operator, meant that we were not in a position to progress on this matter.
However, those things have been resolved, and Aer Southeast has now picked up were it left off.
More info follows in the coming days.

    The ASE team.

New startup proposing Jetstream 32 flights to Lydd (which if a transfer to Ashford International was included would actually have tolerable times to London itself)

It'll be an all-Halal service onboard though :pac:

Firnas? They have been speaking of Waterford a long time.

Yes. They actually have a plane now but there have been multiple failed startups that got that far - California Pacific and Baltia come to mind

There's a doc on Channel 4 at 10.30pm tonight following the guy setting this up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,090 ✭✭✭RadioRetro

And Waterford is his first visit to discuss setting up a service.

I wouldn't be supporting any airline that encourages and supports Sharia law being taken seriously in 2018... Absolutely ridiculous.

Glad I got a further look at the documentary. I must admit that Firnas marketing online etc made them look like what could be a decent setup. However just appears to be a cocky lad playing with other peoples money. I was glad the airport and Lydd told them where to go however bad things got or get WAT.

1/4 of a million they wanted of Lydd airport. J3sus by the look of the place id say they where luck to get their teas and lunch in the canteen for free

And that's the end of that pipe dream. Many of the smaller airlines in Europe are faltering, with some big ones not fairing well either. Not a great time for an empty airport to be appealing to the very airlines that are crumbling.

    No surprise really.

Would love to see Flybe back.
