    Change it.

Semi sealed systems are a curse on humanity(not that I'm trying to worry you) and whoever invented it should be taken outside and given a bloody good kicking.

As most boilers have the low pressure safety switch cut out :eek:to allow the boiler to fire at the lower system pressures of semi sealed system, you can get problems if you run out of water due to the cold feed being turned off(as in your pick) or the non return valve sticks then you could damage the boiler, the thing that has been forgotten is no valve is allowed between the tank and the boiler:confused:

The only designs I would recommend is a open system or sealed system with a filling loop;) anything else is cack.

TKS i changed mine to sealed when i spotted it in January just wondered was i wrong about that too before i face the neighbours again .

Because this thread is like therapy. We are not at the closure stage yet. We have gone through curiosity, confusion, anger, submission, acceptance, we are now on love emotions. Closure will come with time.:D

Based on your post it is obvious that you know there is a problem. Taking this into account and looking back over the last 15yrs where lack of proper regs led to systems being fitted which at that time were compliment but based on what is known now is there any chance at all that there could be a link .Even a 1% chance represents a significant Risk?

remember disease are soaring 2004 one disease 61cases 2011 same disease 272case this is only 1 water bourne disease 2 more follow the same climb . Influenza is also showing major increase patient symptoms similar to legenaires some times these cross over

I do think there is a problem with how automatic top up valves are fitted and used.
The temperatures heating systems generally run at kill most bacteria including legionella with in 1/2 an hour, add this to the volume of water that would possibly pass from a heating system to the mains (taking into account the relevant pressures) and taking this(possibly steralised albeit black water) as a percentage volume of the mains which contains chlorine I wouldnt think of it as a significant risk. this said I do agree that it is one of many issues in domestic plumbing that needs to be addressed.

Personally I currently see incorrect installations of solid fuel boilers the most significant and underestimated health risk in domestic plumbing/heating.

Some of these installations are literally death traps, between incorrect plumbing resulting in possible boiler explosions, scalding risks from overheated hot cylinders, scalding risks from boil over from expansion tanks or injury caused by ceiling collapse by the same.

risk of carbon monoxide poisoning due to flue installation, poor ventilation, extract fans in the same room as the appliance.

we all have encountered issues that drive us mad.

Basically every plumber that has posted on this thread has agreed with you about the problem with automatic top up valves and heating water entering the mains water system. but they are also the plumbers that know the problem is due to incorrect installations that do not meet the regulations, and these plumbers also inform the householder and recommend fixing it.

And the "plumbers" that have and always will carry out bad work will continue to do so untill the whole plumbing industry is regulated and inspected, but this isnt going to happen soon when there has been no regulation of the whole construction industry ever.
We live in hope but untill pigs fly we just keep carrying out work corectly, safely and to meet the most recent regulations.

IMO this thread has ran its course and I for one wont be posting in it again

To be honest there is multiple guilt in this thread. You either make a point or dispute a point. You dont give sass or it can be seen as bullying.

I agree its run its course though. Thanks for all the positive contrabution and i am sorry op it has not got the response you wished for. Just means your in the minority not necessarilary wrong.
