I will be staying in a hotel with my boyfriend in Killarney town for a weekend at the end of this month. Neither of us can drive so we will be getting the train down, arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday afternoon.

Any recommendations of places to see and things to do with the restriction of no car? Would just like to chill out mostly, so relaxing in the town is obvious but would also like to see some nice nature/beach.

Where can you get to by walking, what things worth seeing are walking distance? Could we get a taxi to the national park, would that be reasonable?

    Thanks!

The National Park is easily accessible from the town .. you can walk around the Demense or for a longer walk you can go out to Ross Castle. Plenty of walking paths through the park from any of these locations.

    No beach!

A stroll around the Demesne (effectively the town park, but not some little patch, more like miles and miles of woods and parks between the town and Lough Leane) and the fantastic St Mary's Cathedral, designed by Pugin. Also could get a taxi out to Torc or Muckross House depending on the weather, short enough journey, shouldn't cost that much.

Rent bikes and cycle around muckross lake via Dinah's cottage. Fabulous views around there.

    No beach!

    Dundag ?

OP....... there is tons of lovely stuff within walking distance , so many people ( tourists ) don't realise they can walk into the National Park from the town centre as Conor74 says , either access it via the gates across the road from the Cathedral or the gates across the road from the East Ave hotel ( near the cinema ).

    Enjoy Killarney !

If you both can cycle then renting bikes for the weekend is the best investment you can make to get out to the sites and to make the most of your time in Killarney.

Yeah, if weather any way half decent, everything within a short enough bike spin so might be a good idea. Presume you'll get locks with them, on the chance that you head out to Muckross House and gardens or Ross Castle and decide to take a look around the buildings, or even a boat trip on the lakes, you'll be able to keep them secure and you're not stuck pushing them around.

If you get a taxi be careful! Ive been ripped off a good bit from the taxis at the ranks. Best thing to do is call up Euro Taxis (or cabs, cant remember.. its euro something). Taxi should cost less than 6euro for the two of ye.

Try go see torc waterfall its really beautiful and from the town they operate gap of dunloe tours. There is a tourist office opposite the grand hotel, they should help you out with planning trips. I've never been on one of these tours personally we just drove up.

Dont forget the jaunting car! Its expensive (40 eur or more), but its really cool. Food is good and reasonable in macs on mainstream. Jam has amazing desserts and the cube and the plaza are both great for cocktails.

If you go into a newsagents pick up a copy of the Killarney Advertiser, should tell you about spa deals the many hotels are having if you're interested in that.
